I am looking for a machine shop to turn down a ball screw (4) for drop down casters. I have looked through google maps and that proved fruit-less. Any suggestions?

Jim Barker is the man! Been using him for years with excellent results on price and quality.
His shop is 3 miles from the Catawba River bridge @ Hwy 16 in Gaston County.

I'm 10 minutes from Mt holly. Do you need the OD turned down or the thread changed?

I was talking to tknopp about getting it done. But Stanley is a lot closer than mint hill.

It's going to be 3x3x0.125 tubing spanning the gable end legs. Top tube will be fixed. Bottom tube will be sandwiched between two brackets per leg running parallel to the leg. 2 3/4" ball screws running from the fixed tube to the bottom tube with that having a ball nut welded to it. The top tube will have a crank attached to a roller chain connecting the two ball screws together.

My thoughts are. Turn the ball screws down to 1/2" approx 5 in length. Put in a key way approx 1.5" And have a shoulder for a retaining ring. It will be 4 ball screws in total. Plus 2 shafts with shoulders for retaining rings.

For the record, being that it's at least two ops on two machines something like that would probably go around $50 per shaft ( for 4) at any smaller machine shop and take at least a few weeks, most larger shops wouldn't touch it or just quote you $200 per shaft. That being said, Matt works for $8 hr so I would pick him.
Also for what it's worth, if you do call a machine shop about it an actual ballscrew is about 60rc at the surface while acme rod is soft. Would make a decent difference in how it's priced.
