Just have to vent for a minute. I have a guy supposed to be working on my CJ7 to have it ready before he leaves for France on Tuesday. (He's had it for 6 weeks). Wasted most of the day today just messin around and collecting some parts. As long as it gets done, I'm fine. I can handle it.

Tonight however, we go to put on the Pro Comp 4" springs, and they appear to be too short! Checked the website and everything is right. I guess I'll have to call them in the morning to find out why. I'm lovin the jeep, but frustrated as h***!

welcome to the world of offroading, there will be plenty more mad dash last minute scrambles and wrong parts with the right part numbers in your future. =)

This will be a never ending thread ... If you keep the jeep. But I wouldn't trade mine for anything I just plan on parts being wrong and everything I do takes twice as long as it should. Then when it goes well I am ready to start something else.

How much too short are the springs?
The 4" Pro Comp springs for rear Toy IFS applications are short too - with stock shackle mounting, at full droop the shackles point inward. I had this exact problem w/ a set.
Buuuut - alot of thatis b/c they are "tight" and bowed for the lift, once there weight on them then will flex/straighten out a good bit. When first put on, even weighted, the shackle angle was pretty vertical, moreso than I liked... but after a good bit of wear, they flattened out.
I was paranoid and moved my shackles inward (after i got one inverted... but that's only b/c i got it aitborn so it was fully unloaded, the nhardlanded). Wish I hadn't moved the mounts inward now though, since they've flattened out toa reasonable arch the stock shacklesare too steep, had to make longer ones.

Point is - they may not really be too short once they are settled.

what ratlabguy said

its been over 10 years since I lifted my CJ, can't remember the details, but it takes some convincing to get thing to fit right. The weight of the vehicle will open up the springs.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but when we put the jeep down, even it's own weight couldn't keep the shack in the downward position. It kept going inward up into the frame. I was planning on moving the front mount back about 1" and it looks right. I can't ride it with the springs and shackles smacking the inside of the frame. I'll add heavier and maybe longer shackles later if I need to. Thanks guys.

Are the mounts stock, and in teh stock location?

You have to be careful about moving thr front mount, if you do, that changes the length of the driveshaft - increased chance of slip yoke problems. Generally speaking, people move the shackle hangars instead.

Yeah, the front shackle hanger is what I am moving, not the fixed rear. I was supposed to be working on it tonight, but the guy bailed on me again and it is in his garage, so I can't even get to it. Oh well. He says it will be done this weekend.
