Was flipping thru 4wd hardware Xmas mag for gift ideas for Emmie and saw the mag light holders for something outrageous like $39. (Well surfed around and see it for $21 but still ouch)

I know we have some machine shop guys on here, wondered how hard these would be to make?

Basically a round hole "slightly" larger than the mag light, with a "tapped" hole on one side for a threaded bolt holding the flashlight in place. Another set of holes for screwing/bolting to whatever.

Would love to have one/two/etc but not even as a Christmas present would I think that price is worth it?

Thoughts? Any redneck ideas out there for the same thing? (Was thinking of welding on a bolt/nut somehow...still thinking no formal ideas yet)

Maglite billet

You know those garage organizing accessories designed to hold brooms, rakes, etc. on the wall? some of those are spring loaded "clamps" that could hold a mag-lite. Not sure where you're wanting to mount it or how tightly you want it to be in there, but it's worth a shot.

home depot "used to" carry the plastic ones made by mag lite. i've got a couple for the jeep, have been holding up for a couple of years, the damn thing usually just rolls around in the floor. i suppose that if you wanted really cheap you could use a spring clamp, or c-clamp to attach it to alomst anything you wanted to.

I got mine from local ACE hardware for around $6 a pair, Maglite brand. Work good for clamping lexan w/s to rollbar too.

Flashlight holder

Sam, I think this is what you are talking about.
I got these at a silent auction up at the Dixie Run a few years back. They will hold your light no matter what! I made some out of some junk I found at a scrap yard, but not nearly as nice. If I had the stock I could make them.

The tensioner hole is threaded 3/8 I bought a comode tank bolt kit(nylon bolts, cut them off and locktighted a knob I got from Ace Hardware and it keeps the light in place, and does not scratch it. Two big holes drilled to allow a screw driver, and two smaller holes that are counter sunk so they do not touch the light. Pretty simple.

One of these is for a C cell light, the other for a D cell light

Buy a set of the Maglite plastic holders and mount them on the left side frame (right next to the floor) of the driver's seat. Its the best place to mount Maglite that I have found in a Jeep. Its out of the way, secure and doesn't take up any space.

Gawd, I'll be as old as Chip before I could get my mag-light out of the mount with those things!!

x3 on the plastic clippy ones.

Not sure where the difficulty is there Rich. It is very somple and easy. Not too mention I have yet to have one come loose. ABout a 1/4 turn of that knob and it's out.

I run CNC's daily and with the prices of new aluminum stock you'd have to make quite a few to make some $. Set up a tool change on it and it might take 2 min./piece, but for as easy as the plastic ones are to mount, I wouldn't waste my time.

Here's my overhead console I made for my CB. It's painted black now.

Go with the plastic mag-lite brand clips. I have some inside on the roof of my dd (well outta the way of my head) and they hold firm, yet i can get at my light on the fly in any kind of emergency. Good bang for the buck. ;)

clips

I use the plastic clips to hold a three cell in the Toy. It will never come out.
