Heres the deal I bought a 1998 jeep cherokee with 198,xxx miles about two monthes ago I have put about 700 miles on it since I bought it. I had the engine, transmission, and transfer case replaced because it was a non runner when I bought it. Thats not where the problem is the problem is this: When I am on the highway between 62-70 miles per hour the entire jeep starts to vibrate it originates from the front end (possibly axle/ or wheels) and then the closer you get to 70 mph and above the worse it gets. I know the jeep has high miles I think it may be originating from worn out control arm bushings on the front axle or the such allowing the axle to move around and shake while driving this only happens at speeds of 62 mph and above it gets worse as you approach 70mph and above though. ANY IDES ITS ACTUALLY SO BAD IT GIVES ME A HEADACHE!!!
please post replys and send pms if you know anything about this. espically if you've experienced this before.

bump i really need all pointers as of right now i can't even drive this thing on the highway, so its kinda a got to sit until i can figure this out and i really regret that b/c i enjoy driving this jeep alot... please help

With that many miles on it, who knows? Check the hubs, check the ball joints, tie rod ends, u-joints, panhard bar, rotors and drums, rotate the tires front/back, etc.

At this point, everything is pretty much worn out. You're just going to have to keep checking things until you find what's in the worst shape. Fix that, and work your way up the list until you find the problem.

well right off the bat i can elminate the rotors and drums the tire rotation since i have already had those done butr the others may be the culpriates i know my tie rod bushing are popped open and the grease has been released so that could be it but im doubtful. i have a friend who works at a shop im gonna have him drive the car on the highway and then since schools out im gonna work wiht him over the summer and we can possibly make a list or suspects then go through it one by one.
keep the advice coming

are all of those thing know tro amek the entire jeep make noises its more that my jeeo makes noises that are extremely loud than it shakes the saking is very minor but the noise level is untolerable

Check the track bar frame mount, hub bearings, all the control arm bushings if it is shacking that bad something has to have alot of play or serious signs of being worn out.

In your previous thread on this problem I said it sounds alot like bad hub bearings.

If you can tolerate the noise and shacking long enough to drive to Fayetteville I will be more then happy to try and help you out.

Pressure wash the under side of the jeep to remove all the dirt and grime and grease and look for cracks around every suspension bracket, bolt, bushing, etc. the front track bar bracket on my ZJ broke and I didn't know it and when I got to 45mph, I thought the whole vehicle was falling apart the shaking was so violent. Got it home and didn't see that the bracket was broken until I decided to clean everything.

well had the tires rebalanced but that didn't help gonna but it up on the jack tommorow and try to test the wheel bearings a ns see if thats the cause. any other things i should check while im under there????

fogot to tell you guys but im a newbie to this stuff so wheret the ball joints dont you try to tshake the wheel up and down to test for bad ball joints i know thatsa astupid question but just want to confirm.

PROBLEM SOLVED, culpriate was a bad front driveshaft that had lots of play going to pull it out tommorow and then get it rebuilt, thanks for any and all help.
