I shot a thief with rock salt out of a 12 gauge when i was 14. We use to night watch a coal mine back in the day and i would walk it at night in the summers with my shot gun. One night i was walking through the mine property around 3 am and a man jumped up from hiding behind some 55 gallon drums and took off running away. It scared the crap out of me he made it about 100 ft before i shot him in the ass or back he hit the ground screaming and flopping around like fish that just pulled out of the water. My stepfather heard the shot and hollered at me to see what i was shooting at. I told him i just shot somebody he came up to the mine in a hurry with his gun but man i shot had gotten back on his feet and was running and screaming around the mountain till i couldn't hear him no more. We searched the mountain's all we found was a few drops of blood where he was rolling around at. My stepfather ask how close he was when i shot him about 100 ft away he said not to shoot them that close again we might have to bury them next time. We didn't call the police back then it was a waste of time they didn't care unless there was a body back then. We told the mine owner about it the next day he said we didn.t have to bury the body if it happened again he would just take the body back in the mine to some old works and get rid of it. After a coupe of weeks we found out who i had shot his friends was talking about him they said they had to go to his house and dig rock salt out of his ass and leg's and lower back for over an hour. They said he cried for 2 day's because it was burning so bad. If he had known we hadn't called the police he could have went to the hospital and told them some lie and got treated. He didn't come around me or my family the rest of that year. His friends started calling him ole salty after that. We were friend's for about 15 years after that till he died.
