My 84 Yota has a marlin doubler, marlin twin sticks, and a rear 4:1 crawler gear...
Just got it..
When I coast in either N or coast in gear with the clutch down I get a noise that sounds like metal on metal chattering with each wheel rotation. As soon as you get on the gas it goes away.. (either that Or the engine drowns it out).. THe kid I got it from says the 4:1 crawler gears were trimmed..and got trimmed a bit too much.. Idk where to start diagnosing this.. I cant drop the case because its my DD...Im not even convinced its the rear crawler gear..I have a front locker (detriot), and a rear cable locker...could one of those be culprit? It seems like its coming from the rear of the truck..but again..super hard to tell when your driving.. Any ideas?

its probably the crawl box. When i put my marlin crawl box and marlin adapter in brand new and they made quite abit of noise like gears grinding almost. In fact, i pulled them back out of the truck and took them apart after only 20 miles to make sure nothing was wrong with a gear of bearing. They are just noisy when used on the road and turning them faster than what they were intended for. Should not be a problem other than noise though but make sure to check your fluid level in both cases to make sure they ar full. check trans fluid level and diffs also.

So that's what that noise is! I've been listening to mine do the same thing. I thought it was the All Pro disk brake I've got on behind the cases.
