The Mason Jar Trail at Black Mountain OHV Park in Evarts, KY is NOT closed.
There was an issue with some land ownership rights, surveys, property lines, etc but that has been resolved and the Mason Jar Trail will remain open.
This came directly from the Harlan County Tourism Department (877-737-0778), specifically Brandon (Watts?) who is one of the employees who works at the new trail head checkpoint/gift shop. The parks committee has built a gate house/gift shop at the Bailey's Creek trail head which is manned, generally, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The gate house phone number is 606-837-3205. The entrance staff checks for trail passes and sells trail passes as well as maps, T-shirts and other gift and trail supply items.
So......enjoy your next trip to the park. Improvements in camping facilities, infrastructure and trails are happening as the park cranks up for another great season of wheeling.
