And to think, for not much more, I got the while thing removed, built, and installed from the local DTT dealer.

There's also a very precise tolerance spec sheet they go by when rebuilding, and every single component is checked..

What if you have an issue after the build? are they going to ask you to pull the trans and ship it to them?

Having someone semi-local was important, and the training he went through to meet DTT's specs was impressive.

I shopped around and compared all of them before I made my choice.. you should too..

Thats ALOT of money for a converter, and ALOT of money for a rebuild kit. I get custom converters made all day long for approx $400, and they are built ANY way i want

Also the "updated" valve body is simply a valve body with a reprogramming kit installed,

I'm assuming its a 518 trans in your diesel dodge?

When i build these transmissions I get the billet input shaft and drum made for less than that price. I also have many of these transmissions driving around in 1200hp trucks!

Let me know if i can do anything for you

That would be a 47RE which has been in dodge diesels since 1996.

Why didn't you just buy a built tranny in the first place? Like someone tried to get you to.

By whom.. what materials do they use? For $400, sounds like a re-finned stocker to me. Also, that's not just the rebuild kit with new frictions, that's alot of billet pieces to address the internal leakage.

When i build these transmissions I get the billet input shaft and drum made for less than that price. I also have many of these transmissions driving around in 1200hp trucks!

You get them made locally? There's a few big name builders that would love to find your source and would probably pay you a royality for every one if they were of decent quality..

1200hp, huh.. :poop: I know it can be done, I just don't believe that you did it.

Which is also a 518, same trans just different names

I didn't say locally, but i build 3-5 transmissions a week and get very good prices on anything that goes inside of them.

That transmission is the weak point in dodge trucks, not very strong at all, and still not that strong all built up(basically a old 727 with OD and electonic control, but still has a governor). But I do get them to hold in there, I believe its more of HOW its built then what parts go inside.

Ooook. So I'm calling bull:poop: on this one.
Here's some accurate trans information. You should know this if you know as much about them as you say you do.
The A518 was used from late 91 to 93. It is overdrive, non lockup, and also known as the 46rh, od is electric
The 47rh was used in 94 and 95. It is overdrive, lockup, od and lock up are electrically controlled, also known as the A618
The 47RE was used from 96 to early 03. Overdrive, lockup, electronic control

Aren't most of these trannies so similar that you can interchange most of the internal parts though? I understand they are all different trannies but i thought they were so similar that you could interchange alot of things? Just curious.

By the number designations you're correct (except I think the "rh" means it's hydraulically locked, not electronically)... by the actual parts/cases/etc., sha_ba_do_bang is also correct.

My '93 technically has an a518, BUT the VB has *everything* on it (IIRC, additional lockup solenoid/etc.) to be used in a 47rh (just no provisons on the case for the additional wiring to enter). According to my (independent = not on the dole to push DTT/Suncoast/Goerends as THE "one") tranny guy, there's only minor differences between any of the models you listed...

By electrically, I mean it is electrically activated. Meaning there is no computer controlling it. It is hydraulic, but it is electrically activated.

Yup, a518 is another name for TorqueFlite 727..

the pans and many of the seals and such are the same between all of them...

holy crap...i forgot about this thread...ahaha well to clear things up I paid $2200 to a local transmission shop and got the VBX valve body, kevlar bands, reckon torque convter, and something else that i forget, the TC went out and he replaced it under warrenty for FREE..great guy that I am sticking with...

and BTW....adam (sollaryellow) knows his shit ;-)

tell me who the tranny shop is. I'm lookin

Petersburg Transmision in Mars Hill right of the exit off 26. Bryan knows his stuff and does a good job and like you see holds to his warrenty. My truck is in there right now getting the new torque conveter. Tell Bryan I sent ya.

he is good.

his card says:

I would say at least spend some money on a decent performance converter built to your needs rather than a reman'd stock replacement TC and VB like was installed the first time around. That's likely why it died again this time, and adding a smarty isn't going to help it.
:edit: Granted I did the install myself and didn't replace the bands, but I went with DTT for the vb and tc--built specifically for my truck--and it cost under $1800.

yes the TC did go out, but you have to allow space for error sometimes, the TC that was installed was bad obviously, he has built several transmission in peoples truck I know that are running almost double the HP i am now and no problems, thats why it comes with a backed up warrenty...and the edge and smarty just put it to the test for him!:driver:
