i have a 01 mazda tribute,FWD mainly with a push button
4wd,will it throw any codes if i dont have a rear shaft in...its my sons first car,we just put a tranny in it...dont wanna do it again...plus the rear shaft was pulled and lost the ball bearings at the front end,cv joint....350+ for a new half shaft

It shouldn't. Is there any "automatic engagement" for the rear end? Like if one of the fronts starts to slip it sends power to the rear? If not, I don't see a problem with it.

Yea, I can't think of any problems with leaving it out. Especially for $350. Though I'm no expert on a Mazda/Ford...

Like stated before, it should not be an issue if there is no automatic engagement/ or AWD. Also, make sure it's not a slip yoke driveshaft, some slip yokes would allow fluid to leak at the output shaft if not in place.

nah its a type of cone that fits in a cup and is held in by 6 torx head bolts, the wife drove it around today with no problems...crash test dummy lol
