Got a job I need done. I've got a potential customer that wants kind of a Rube Goldbergian contraption built. It's a device her Dad invented back in the 60s, built a business with it, sold the business, and eventually passed away. She wants to try to get something going again. I have the patent, some drawings, and a thorough description of what it's supposed to do. Is there anyone here interested in taking on the job? I'm looking for a person or firm that can handle the design work, I'll handle manufacturing. Thanks. Feel free o PM me if you want. I don't want to throw out too many details here.

It might be good to list the type of industry it's for, to find people experienced in that area.

It's a fairly simple machine from one perspective. Imagine a reel-to-reel tape deck without all the fiddly electrical bits. And it reels up paper strips instead of magnetic tape. Driven spindle, carrier spindle, couple of tensioners, etc. The toughest part I'm trying to wrap my mind around is the cutoff switch he had designed. You can set it to cut off at specific diameters so it's repeatable.

What kind of design work? Like putting together working drawings? I can probably help with that, I'm a mechanical designer with an engineering background.

Like I was saying, all I've got to work with is the original patent. What we're trying to do is recreate the function more than the form. I was looking for somebody to design a device that could accomplish what this did, but using modern components, preferably off-the-shelf stuff. I'm looking for drawings and dims to build it off of. Fabrication is more my forte, not inventing. I'd just like something that works on paper. I can modify as necessary if it doesn't proof out in reality.

And naturally, I'm not looking for a handout. I expect to make money off this job, you should too.

I'm not a mechanical engineer but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night!!

Did your wife kick your ass out last night? :D
