This weekend we observe Memorial Day. Please notice I said that we observe the day. Don't celebrate. Observe. Please don't tell me Happy Memorial Day as it's not my day. Don't thank our Wounded Warriors for their sacrifice. We Veterans who survived have our own day and it's in November. It's also not about white sales, deeply discounted mattresses, vehicle sales or barbecues. This holiday is meant to remember the men and women who sacrificed EVERYTHING while fighting for our country. Take the time during your extended weekend to remember those who gambled with their lives and lost so that you didn't have to. Remember the thousands of men and women who won't be barbecuing with their families this weekend because they are no longer with us. Those are the ones this weekend is for. Pay honor to my brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate price for this country. Proudly hang your flag on your home. Replace a tattered flag of a local business that has been bothering you. Honor those brothers and sisters in some way....

Exactly! Well said.
On my way home from church this evening, who btw had a well done Memorial Day presentation, I saw a fallen US flag. The pole it was hung on had broken, the Flag could not get all the way to the ground so I turned around and raised it back up and "adjusted" the cleat to make sure it stays up. A call will be going to the establishment when they open back on Tuesday.

I guess I was raised wierd(my grandfather instilled a lot of things in me,he was a ww2 vet that lost a brother and many friends in ww2 and Korea). On Labor Day we labored, on Veterans Day you take off to honor the many that stood up for the country.... On Memorial Day we always worked part of the in a somber state for fallen that did not make it home and whatever was made(he owned a garage) was given back to the families of the fallen(goes back to the days during and right after ww2 when people took care of each other without the government programs). So in the morning I will go to work, the money earned will go to a deserving family or support group for the fallen soldiers families.... Flame away if you must but I did not have the balls to serve as my grandfather did because of a fear to be one of the people we honor tomorrow. The other thing granddaddy taught me was we need soldiers for this country but for everyone we have, we need 10 to support them as they did during ww2 rather than the bs these guys have to put up with today....

Hats off and beers to the fallen, I went threw about a whole roll of pennies today, for the guys in the know....

While I'm more than thankful for the guys and gals that gave their lives for my freedom, I can't help but think of how people lost sight of the one man that died for the whole world, making it possible for us to even have freedom to fight for.
That said I thank all the vets on this forum, and continue to pray for those that lost friends and family.

Jason W. You have been on my mind. Special prayer for you Buddy.

Try to thank a Gold Star family today. If you do not know what a Gold Star family is i will help point you in the correct direction.

It is a family that has lost a loved one in war. It could be a mother / father / brother / sister / wife / son / daughter.
