Men may weep openly today.

Chip,
Not sure who your beef was with but if it was me I'll xplain my comments a little better. Cydney nailed it. Predisposition does not equal wil get.

Frankly medicine isn't good enough to give out an 84% chance, that's a boutique doctor making money.

I feel great heart felt sympathy for the battle Deanna has and is fighting. I don't know you and Paul nearly as well as many but I'd be there in a minute if I could help. Hope that is known.

Noe AJ the chick that wore a vial of blood of her husbands arou d her neck, the lady who has adopted dozens of kids and taken some back because they weren't appreciative enough....to the hired help who raised them not her.

The chick that publically broadcasts she underwent a voluntary double masectomy because she might get cancer. I have an aunt who lost one of hers and despite domestic replacement 10 years later she still talks about the sense of loss and fighting with self worth/esteem issues. When a woman voluntarily undergoes the treatment for a condition she doesn't have to me that minimizes the struggles of the real warriors fighting this disease.

When you add in the AJ is an admitted bisexual and has talked about a sex change in the past, excuse me if I am skeptical of this pity party publicity stunt.

I've had skin cancer and probly will again, my sister had it and had her nose rebuilt, last surgery yesterday. My mom is having surgery today on her SC. My dad had his prostate removed from it, and just in time apparently. I've had good friends and family die from it since the second grade. Cancer sucks for the victims and the friends and family of them w the fear, dread, worrying, suffering, treatments, death etc. Surviving it is great but it changes lives forever even if it's "cured" cause it can always come back. I hope the best for anyone who gets or has it and loved ones of. I've personally adopted a screw it mentality and try not to worry about myself too much but do take precautions w the sun now, I'd hate to know what my genes would tell about my possible future. I don't want her dead but I never was a fan of AJ, if she can help others w her story good for her.

Regardless of whether this is a publicity stunt it has done one thing. It has made it public and hopefully given other women the courage to do the same if faced with the same reality or worse. She may be an AW of the highest caliber but sometimes even they serve a purpose for the greater good.

So, a woman should have to fight cancer for a certain amount of time before being "allowed" to remove her breasts? Is that kinda like you should wait until your engine starts rattling and knocking before changing the oil?

If we are going to be so proactive lets just cut them off to start with, add it to the list of unnecessary body parts like foreskin and appendix.

I'm not a huge fan of her, but have enjoyed some of the movies she has been in. As far as what type person she is in private life, I have no idea. Not the kinda information I seek or even read about. I only know a few folks that I can say, I know them. Most of them wheel, other than my kids. My point is, the comments made, though they may have been directed toward AJ, hit home with me, further, I am absolutely positive it hit home with others who have been faced with the same situation.
As far as were the "tests" accurate enough to warrant have a double mastectomy? Well to be honest, I don't know. I know that with all the research they are learning more and more. Part of the research is not just curing, but it's also prevention. I doubt that she took the word of one doctor before she decided to do this. She would have had to do a lot of soul searching before deciding to do this. Her boobs were a large part of her success, and as a woman, something that had been with her since puberty. I don't think anyone here has the resources to completely understand what was found, what it pointed at, or for that matter, the education to understand it all.

OK so now that the soap opera drama is dying down I'm gonna ask an idiot naive insensitive question.
Wouldn't it actually be easier to deal w/ a double mastectomy than just one? B/c then at least you are still evenly balanced/match, and I'd think it'd make replacement/augmentation easier.

angelina's situation is not like others, she has millions of dollars to make sure that she gets the best possible care. when they removed hers she was able to keep her nipples, how many women have that option when they are dealing with this.
i have grown up around boobies(my mother sells custom fitted bras and mastectomy prosthesis) and in my experience the physical side of it is not nearly as bad as the psychological side of it.

YES to answer your ?...Here is what happened to me, I found the lump myself the 1st time at age 39 they did a biopsy to diagnose it when they did they went in at a wrong angle and caused the cells to spread around a great deal of my left breast therefore had no choice but to do a masectomy quick before got to my lymphnodes. No one at that time said to go ahead and remove both and frankly I was so devastated and rushed had no time myself to think about it. Later I was told mine was estrogen driven and aggressive and will return in the other breast or show up anywhere. If I passed my 7 yrs I should be ok well came back in the other one right after 5 yrs, we did a lumpectomy cause this time my surgeon made sure they did it correctly with my biopsy. Had 2 more needle aspirations after that cause findings of more lumps. I now have bad cells in my right breasts right now I get a ultrasound every 3mths to keep a watch cause I decided to wait till it comes back to do the other masectomy. Cause trying to decide to remove the other which I had a Tram Flap done and do implants on both so they will match and somewhat look the same. If I did over again at the beginning I would have done both w/ implants and a hysterecomy...But what is done is done, I can't live with regret just learn more about it!! But YES I recommend both if you get it in one!! I have been through hell and back and CANCER sucks!!!

They actually rebuild them using your skin from another place...But with her not having cancer yet they may have reused them?? I do not know but they did a lot to mine they even tattoo the areola area back...lol Amazing what they can do now!! And for the record I choose not to have a huge nip cause it would be erected all the time!! lol

Seriously guys I have no problem with you all loving breasts hell I make jokes to this day, I have to to keep going and yes I have my bad days but with support from my family and friends I make it!! You men like boobies and us women well most like mens butts and....lol Go on with this thread, really does not bother me just got upset over that one post but let's move on...Everyone is entitled to their opinion...I still give Angelina props though and my opinion...

This is what I was refering to. How does it make someone elses struggle less because she had a potential life saving surgery?

Basically what Im saying is this. Say I didnt have money to change my oil and now my engine is knocking. Should I talk bad about someone who has enough to change theirs every 3000?

My grandmother didnt have insurance, couldnt afford it. Never knew she had breast cancer until she passed from it. Did my Grandfather talk crap about my Mom for having enough money and insurance to be checked and find the problem early? No probably not.

Doctor told my Mom that for most women, its not if... Its when will you get it. If you live long enough it is a strong possibility you will discover it one day. Much like colon cancer for men. High percentage stuff.
As far as the jabs Anjolina has gotten from this fairly mixed crowd... Her level of wierdness is bound to bring out the jokes.
