I am going to knock out some easy stuff tomorrow and head to the woods for the night. Headed back in Tues AM. Just taking the XJ.
Mortimer?
Old NC 105?
Looking to keep it close I am worried that exposure on NC 105 would make for a bad night that is why I might to head to Mortimer.

My wife and kids like Kings Mountain Campground. Real close to us.

Anything up here next to a creek right now.. You better be on your cold weather gear game otherwise you're gonna be miserable. I personally would head south.

I was hiking up in Jonas Ridge area a week ago and there was a guy camping in the back of a Tacoma, with fresh snow on the ground. We were the first to drive by him since the snow.

I know of the camping near Jonas ridge near Craig Creek on the FS road . Am I missing out on something further up 181?

There are primitive car camping sites in the Harper creek/lost cove areas. I usually go in off 181 in Jonas ridge.

Good spot with nice wind blockage on 105

Do you still have the tires and wheels that were on it?

Yes no need to run MT's to drive on gravel. I put them on when I actually go somewhere like Potts mountain..3.07 and 31's kinda blow. Not to mention it is fun to see how much about the world's cheapest at can take.

Go by mast store and get a map of the Wilson creek area. Lots more roads and trails that I think you are missing..
