I think I'd like to add some gussets to the support frame on a set of rocker panel gaurds I've made for the 4Runner. Seems kind of silly to go and cut up a whole chunk of steal sheet just for a bunch of small triangles. Any idea where i could get my hands on a handful of them? Maybe just 1 or 1.5' on a side, 1/8 or 3/16 or so?

Yeah. Swing by my shop in Rural Hall some night and I'll set you up with a piece of 1/4" scrap and a plasma cutter. Tabs galore! Bring a couple of cold ones.

one other thing to remember, if you dont want to ruin a good sized peice of plate by cutting out small tabs, just buy flat stock the width of the tabs you want, like 2"x1/4" flat, buy a few feet of it and the tab is already cut to width in one direction

^^^ now there's some good thinking.
Biggest problem is that I have is not having a good way to cut it... I'm peicing this thing together using my booth in a continuing ed welding class.. wed is the last night... then no more free welding for me, lol.

sounds like its time to invest in a 4.5 inch angle grinder, i have 2 or 3 around the garage, they are indispensable, and pretty cheap, and will make quick work of tabs and brackets

Come by my shop tomorrow night, 5:30 or so. We'll get you set up. And remember, if you ever need a place to weld, I'm right down the road.

Awspence, the plate I'd be cutting up is scrap anyway. Perfect plasma practice plate! (Now that's alliteration for 'ya!)

x2

I did all the work on my original SOA with just a 4.5" grinder. Buy a good one, it'll be one of your most heavily used tools.

Ah, so, I have a fabulous $15 Harbor Freight electric grinder.... and just Saturday bought some 4" cutoff wheels. Wasn't really thinking of that but i'll give it a shot.

that stuf is so cheap at aa mfg, its not worth the time to make em.

aa mfg? Can you explain please?

Just another option.

This is from Jegs. 20/ package for $10.00
However, they are only 1/8". Don't know if that will work or not.

See, now THAT's what I'm talkin' about! now why didn't I post thsi a week ago so i could have 'em now.
And if 1/8" isn't enough (prob would be), I could always put 2 together!

also with aa mfg, you can send them your own design and they'll cut it cheap, all they ask is that they can keep the design and offer it as "One of thiers".

Stupid Cheap prices. I think something like $7 for a Disc Brake mounting bracket $2-$3 for Tabs....

Holy Crap! This place is awesome.
Is the quality decent? Not that I can complain at 0.23 per gusset.

OR, you could have dropped by with a decent sampling of barley pops and picked thru the growing collection of 1/4" laser cut gussets sitting on the shelf...
