metal-urgy question

poop pipe rules!

no its not pipe...

true seamless is more expensive. Its actually called CDS (cold drawn steel). The hole in the center is "punched" through a solid bar. If this seamless tube is not drawn over a mandrel, tolerances may not be that great.

DOM is simply a process (seamless is also "DOM"). However, its commonly referred to ERW tube that has been drawn over a mandrel to remove the weld seam and work the tube to pretty tight tolerances.

"DOM" ERW tube is popular for tubing that requires thin walls. For tubing that requires thicker walls, the "seamless" type tends to be advantageous.

1020 vs 1026 doesn't have a ton of differences. If you are using it for tube for a crawler, whatever is priced in your budget should work fine, so long as you don't plan to race it 200mph or fly to the moon in it...

Just for reference... because I didn't know either.
*Grading chart*
poop pipe 30-40 ksi
1025 seamless 53-60 ksi
DOM 65-72 ksi

From the looks of it, 1025 is somewhere between A53 poop pipe and DOM. Intended as structural steam pipe.

A53 is structural.

what grade of steel are you referencing with the DOM??? DOM can be most any type of material, not just steel.

X2. DOM is simply a process to work the stresses out of the tube & true up tolerances. It is still welded.

It can be in many different materials & grades.

Don't hesitate, build away. Most of the time the things we build are overbuilt anyway just to have enough wall thickness to prevent dents and bending. That 10-20% difference in strength is negligible.

It was for xj savage. My quote guy got me a quote for this, it being like $3.5 a foot. But hes going to go with dom. Ima try to get a quote from EMJ in charlotte.

You should have no problem getting a quote, but it might be difficult to afford.
