I am 99% sure I am going to pick up a 85 4runner tomorrow. It has however about 6" of lift and some 35x15 tires on it. Will a truck like this pass the saftey inspection? Almost every vehicle Ive owned over the last few years has had problems being inspected due to mods, and I just want to make sure I'm not getting another one.

Will it fail because the knuckle bearings are shot, ties rods are trashed, parking brake inop, or some other safety consideration is not up to par?

Probably.

The question you ask is akin to me asking if I fart, will it smell like chinees food ?
 
Alright thanks, you did answer my question. I would expect it to fail for the things you mentioned but I was worried about the lift and tire mods. The truck actually looks very solid underneath, but we'll see.

LOL, thanks! No we moved down here from upstate NY and they are anal about EVERYTHING up there.
I was stationed down in Jacksonville about 10 years ago and I knew a lot of guys with off road trucks that had no problems but I know things change. There were no OBD2 inspections for one thing.

Where in upstate ny were you from?

For the most part, as long as it's not unsafe looking, or as Kevin pointed out, unsafe, you'll be fine in the inspections.
 
Many NYers here. Be nice about how hard you bash on certain areas folks from all over here.. I lived up in st.johnsville for ~2 years.... and I also went to school in utica..
 
It will pass inspection in Jacksonville ya just need to know where to take it.
