5/8" thick Axle brackets

5/8"? WTF are you attaching those to? daaamn.

I gotta ask why.. I mean, the axle tube is no thicker than 1/2", and what could you possibly be attaching it to at the chassis end that's that stout?

Obviously, it's your choice and hell, if you wanted to make the brackets from 1", that's up to you, but the sheer time it's going to take to clean it, drill it, and then weld it with enough penetration... wow.

Well, for the main reason the guy we bought the plate from had scrap 5/8 plate, so we used it instead of cutting up a new sheet of 1/2.
No drilling required for the 5/8 plate... just some welding
Got the axle cleaned of factory brackets and installed the X-member for fit

I take it you are making your own long arm kit for your ZJ.

Nice looking ZJ and looks like a good build.

Yeah... its a self design long arm setup. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I hope to be hitting the trails hard very soon.

What kind of suspension are you going to run in the front? 3 link 4 link radius arms (sorry if you already metioned it)? Is that piece of plate the entire bracket, i know its thick but I'de be a bit scared to use that I think??

3 point radius arm with trac bar...

no, the coil spring pad will tie into that bracket to gusset it in place

Haha, na not gonna run them on this rig... They are for sale if you know anyone that may want them... if not, I might wind up slipping them under my Chevy.

They are 48" Michelins XL. 14.00 R 20

Im going to stick to the 35 to 38 inch range I think...

Why did you put those in single shear?

Also, it seems that the bolt would wear out in center (over a long period of time) as it flexes. Its your jeep, but I think that you should put some more thought into that radius setup before you commit to it.

For one, space is limited on a 88 Dana 60 front. I have lesss that 3" of usable space on the driverside. I have no worries for the radius arm brackets, I hardly think they will be any weak link. I mean, If I was running a 400hp engine, or jumping it religiously... I might would consider something more substantial, but I mean really... How much havoc is this the 4.0 capable of ? And I would love to incorporate some Johnny Joints, but 250 is a bit much to spend right now just for this "fun" trail rig... I got the bushings out of stock 2008 rubicon control arms!

i hope that you made new sleeves for those bushings, not just those thin sheet metal ones!

Thats a cool idea.

I received my tapered reamers from XKut! Reamed out my stock pitman arm to accept the Chevy 1-ton tie rod ends. Installed my custom adjustable trac bar. Going to be installing the Hi Steer Arms this week. Will add pics soon!
