So....I'm out in the shop (still am and have been since I got off work at 1am) and the last step in my endeavor is to weld on some new shock mounts. I make TWO small tacks just to hold it in place and I pull the trigger to get some more wire, alas, I'm out of wire. As if that's not crappy enough, it was 5:15 am. I assume the local welding supply store doesn't open until 8 or 9. Oh well! In defense of myself, that 10 pound spool is only the second one I've run through my little Lincoln 140 since I bought it a few years ago. Who would have thought that I would run out right when I really needed it?!

Anybody else ever pull a stunt like that? I'm sure there are some better, more humorous scenarios that some of yall have encountered.

wtf is this thread - did you go play powder puff football afterward?:D

I'll play: Having your best bud (and fabrication cohort) call any type of jeep/buggy/etc. rework a "learning experience". @Spence

Exact same scenario, except for the time. Welding lower mounts on a samurai for a friend. Got two tacks on and ran out of wire. The worst part was that he had to drive it home. He drove it over with no shocks on the rear. We got one side done, but the tacked on mount naturally popped on the way home. We were hoping it would hold. He said it wasn't terrible, but funky having one side all bouncy.

Ran out of wire and gas on a Saturday night trying to finish a roll cage.

I've often wondered how much $$ could be made running a late-night/last minute welding supply business. Could probably charge 2-3x typical costs + a delivery fee for the "convenience" of having stuff delivered at 2am.

I've been there too... 95% of my truck work happens after 9pm when kids are in bed. If I'm going to run out, it will always be late at night.

I ran out of wire once. I usually run a 10 lb roll. Now I keep a 2# roll of solid and flux in the welding cart. The flux core is so I can keep on trucking if I run out of mig gas too!

Been there, done that. Now I have a spare 40# spool of wire sitting there collecting dust and a spare tank of Unimix. So having said that, you REALLY feel dumb after you run out of gas after letting your spare tank sit empty for over a year. Laziness bites my ass yet again!

I run into this a lot it seems like. I always work in my stuff late and either need that one last bolt or some wire or gas

Welding wire or cutoff blades for the grinder. I always running out of either or weekly. Usually run out of wire as I'm lifting something in the air and just need to tack it a few times to "hold it" and of course I'm by myself lol.

I keep flux wire in my 110 mig as a backup if the bigger welder runs out of gas or wire.

Thin grinder cut off wheels always run out. For some reason I always have a few of the thick cut off wheels and have to use them which really brings the suck. Recently I seem to always be one bolt short while assembling stuff.

Did myself a huge favor one day and went to the local pull a part with two five gallon buckets and filled them to the top with every nut, bolt and lug nut I could find laying on the ground. Only got charged like $10 or so mostly for the lugnuts. Not that is ever use half the bolts in there but man has it saved me a few times!

^^^ Really?! I need to check Havelock! If they have 10/11 lb rolls of solid core, that'd be awesome. I learned real quick that 2lb rolls suck ass.

I was sitting on the table outside my shop after I posted this and I heard on the radio that we would see 90 degree weather today, so I took that opportunity to mow the grass. I got done about 7:30 ish, hopped in the truck, and went to Machine & Wedling. 15 bucks and I was good to go.

Yup, ran out of wire recently on a Saturday. The Home Depot over on Six Forks Rd in Raleigh apparently cleaned out all their welding supplies (and generators) recently, so I had to drive all the way to Northern down in Cary to get some wire. I will get another 40# spool and keep this little 10# one as a backup. Already have a backup bottle of Stargon.

Ran out of TP this morning, half way done......

same thing happen to me once.

Except my situation involved the toilet and no TP.
I will never forget a certain mudevil forgetting tp on the trail and riding the rest of the day with one sock!!!

and another

pulling axle from buggy, removing truss and shock mounts, gearing up to finish grinding on it, and watching the thing smile at you as you rotate the center section

A buddy of mine was hunting in the middle of a swamp. They had Taco Bell on their way to the hunt camp, and it was working it's magic on his gastrointestinal system. He went to fart and you could see on his face that his bowels had left his shorts a present. Since he was knee deep in swamp water, there wasn't much of a way to handle the situation but to get out his pocket knife and free himself of his underwear and cut up his t-shirt to finish the cleaning process. Needless to say it was a funny hike back to the camp to change. He looked like something out of Swamp People with no shirt on and only hip waders with suspenders. He was bit by every insect known to man it seemed, too.

I've had dripping trans cooler lines since installation back in February, take time to fix it today (which involved removing the exhaust due to cooler location).... leak appears to be fixed but now something is vibrating/rattling.
