Hello,
As I am new to the area and have been to the flats in Marion
I was wondering if there are any easy trails with creek crossings
That I can take my two yr old on and not beat the snot outta him?
I live in Forest City so any help would be appreciated..thanks..

Creek crossings are going to be hard (and harder) to come by. They are the reasons for some trail closings. Erosion, sediment in the water, etc.

We just did a "snow run" up from Morganton (i-40 near Hickory) to Blowing Rock on forest service type roads. Basically just gravel roads, but the scenery was beautiful. Search Google maps for Mortimer Campground maybe? That will show you the area.

And I think 105 near Linville Gorge, north of Lenoir is a good spot, but I have not been up there yet.

i was using a new GPS program and only recorded my track back (on road) or I'd email it to you.

But there all all kinds of forest service and fire roads in the western part of the state.

Lake Houser between Boiling Springs and Cliffside is a good place for an easy afternoon ride. Just STAY OUT OF THE MUD. That crap is deep and will drown your rig unless you are on 40"+ tires.

You are welcome to join us any time. Check the link in my sig. We have a website and forum with an "Upcoming Events" section. We're always up to something and we're family friendly. We have several couples with young kids. Mine are 13 and 10 and they come out all the time. Makes me feel old, but my kids are the "babysitters" most of the time!

Thanks for the help... @ got lime... Any time you guys go on rides like that please hit me up...I am right here at broadway in forest city.. Thanks...

I would not take a 2 year old to URE. Their necks are still catching up with their big heads and all that bouncing around can be dangerous.
I have been taking my daughter since she was 16 months old. Driving easy & wearing a neck poillow/brace is the key. My kid is now 9 she expect to go every year & climb kodak..

go on a dry day and it would be a blast but if it just rained i hope you like lots of mud

Can you still do the fire tower road on Shumont Mountain? Used to take 2 wd up there. Left off Bills Creek Rd outside Lake Lure.

Sara has been going since she was 8.5 months old (the Veterans Day ride)... "Jeep! Vroom, Vroom, bounce, bounce!"

No creek crossings but a lot of awesome views, Old 105. Start is just off of hwy 126 near Lake James, parallels Linvile Gorge, and ends in Linville. Take a camera!

Up there probably old Dodge Caravans packed full of messicans that just poached a bunch of galax.

I've been up there a few times this year and it's been quiet. I see maybe one other 4wd up there, but no one suspicious or anything.

I believe there was a thread on this site many months ago about what age is appropriate to take a child fourwheeling. The opinions expressed in the thread varied greatly. I don't plan on taking my boy until he is about 5 yrs old or so. I do believe if someone kept to the easy trails and rolled along slowly, that they would be fine. I don't think I'll chance it though.

Fixed it for ya...

Is Richlands Rd still accessible? I always thought that was really mild wheeling. Never go alone of course. Then theres always Brown Mtn..... Can't wait til my son is old enough (only 5 mos now), Thought one of these would be nice once he fits.....

I advised a friend it would be okay to bring his young (just over 1 year old) daughter to Richland Rd. I regretted that. The rocky climb near the beginning is rough. It's hard to make rocks smooth, no matter how slow you go. To each their own though.

Yes, Richland Rd is still accessible. I was up there about a month ago.
