Found a deal on a Mile Marker 4500lb winch.

Will this be ok, to keep preesure on my XJ to get it out of a pinch? I mean I know i really need like a 8000lb winch for a XJ, but would this work if I just needed some help getting over that rock, or gain some forward movement in the mud or sand?

yeah itll work but you wont be happy with it. id hold out for atleast an 8k winch. if you do get the 4500 besure you get a snatchblock. the general rule of thumb is a winch thats atleast 1.5 times the weight of your vehicle

How good of a deal?
You can get the HF 10k for $300 (on sale less with coupon)
Id MUCH rather have a HF 10k that a MM 4500

i had a superwinch 4500 on my xj for about 6 years. it worked, but it left much to be desired. it got me out of whatever i needed, with the help of one or two snatchblocks (mandatory). i now have a 9.5xp and it is TONS better!!!! like i said, it'll work, but anything bigger and you will be a lot happier.

never had one but it would be better than the 4.5kMM.

Smittybuilt XRC8 $299 most anywhere

Buy it, use it, then swap it onto your trailer a some point.

I know you are saying " I don't have a trailer!"

We have all said that, you will some day.

4500# doesn't come with very big rope. So Snatching to double the line pull isn't too good an idea. For $125 you could put it on a trailer, use it for a rear winch or a suspension tie down. but, not for recovery

 That's exactly what folks told/have been telling UJO & myself for years about our N.Hydraulics 4000# (rebadged/derated Ramsey REP8000s) we've been using for years...

OK, mines been *used* for years. Outside of splitting the planetary trying to pull stumps single-line, it continues to work fine. Chris', well.... :shaking:

I do agree, use it until you can replace it and move it to trailer/aft end duty...
