Anyone ever done a conversion on a Humvee winch to 12 volt? What all is involved, and also, does anyone know where I could source the parts? The winch is an MH9000 Warn.

PM sent.

The mile marker winches are the hydraulic winches. Warn made the old electric ones.

I did this conversion for the winch on my buggy. I know a couple of others here have done it too.

The Warn Humvee winches are really cheap as surpluss. Buy a new motor from DB Electrical along with the solenoids. New motor plus the two solenoids for the conversion should be around $150. I did this and now I have a winch that will drag my F250 across the yard...

Its really easy to do. First, call DB Electrical and get the motor and two solenoids for this sent to you. Then, spend some time cleaning the crap the military puts all over the winch. This stuff is thick and makes it difficult to work with and remove screws and bolts if it isn't removed. Remove the motor with the, I think, 10 allen head cap screws. Install the new motor with bearing, etc. Wire up the solenoids per the wiring harness available from DB Electrical. Now you're good to go, assuming the gears, etc. are in good shape. The gearbox is easy to rotate if the engage/disengage handle isn't where you would like. Pull the screws holding it on and slightly rotate it to anothe set of bolt holes that works for you. You should be good to go now. Make sure you have a good ground for the solenoids or they will not work. Have fun.

I have one also that has been converted to 12 volts, it is a WARN. I let Triangle Alternators and Starters do mine for me, It was $300 for the new motor/solenoids/remote and labor. It is one of the strongest electric winches I have ever seen.

Just out of curiosity, do you know if this might work on A Smittybuilt XRC8 winch? Also, is it possible to reverse the direction of the lever? It seems mine, Is engaged when it reads disengaged. I figure, it must be possible. No way, they would misprint all the stickers. Thanks in advance, Paul. Sorry for the threadjack!!!

You should still be able to clock it. As for the stickering, are you sure it doesn't mean "freespool engaged/disengaged" instead of referring to a clutch?

If you email WARN, with all the info you have, and tell them what you're trying to do, they will tell you what part #'s you need to do it. Then you can cross reference the part numbers with a local electrical repair place, and get what you need cheap. I have no idea what winch you have, the military has used several.

Anyone have models on theirs? I'm trying to make sure this one is military. Also, does anyone know where I can get the parts to do it my self online?
I have this winch and was wandering if anyone knew what model it is? Thanks
