So I bought a mini bike in hopes that my kid would take to some form of motorized recreation. I brought it home, fired it up and she backed away slowly and went back in the house. Now I'll have to wait a few more years till the other little one is old enough to ride.

So now that she is giving me no positive feedback I'm going to hop it up for myself. I went Harbor Freight this weekend and bought a 6.5 HP Predator engine to throw on it. Now I need a clutch. I've been on Amazon looking and even stopped by a local motorcycle shop. The dude said you can one of two kinds. The cheap one that will last 30 days and another one that is far more expensive but better. On Amazon I see a few different ones; cheap to semi-cheap.

The one I need is for 3/4" bore for 35# chain. The current one is an 11 tooth 5/8" bore. It doesn't like my fat ass thus the need for the upgrade. Anyone with any experience?

Don't mess with a centrifugal clutch. Get a torque converter and be done. You'll thank yourself. We had a baja racer that had two d battery powered, air mattress inflators plumbed as superchargers on the stock 97cc motor. It would fly.

Check out OMB (old mini bikes) warehouse. They also have a forum. I put about a $75 clutch on my trike and it has done great for the time that I have rode it. They are easy enough to change that I might would just cheap out and see if you even use it enough to kill a cheap one.

....be aware if it has no suspension, and little minibike wheels/tires bad things will happen when a "big kid" hits a pothole or big bump at speed. In the yard or on flat ground they are fun !

On a side note if anybody has one of these (mini bikes) that needs work or a motor I may be interested.

I put one of those motors on our 2 seat go cart when the stock 5hp briggs shat the bed.…holy cow, it'll run like 40mph and drift all through the yard.

It's piss green tiny bald tires and not enough ass to move anyone bigger than 35 lbs

this except for the 35 lbs part. I somehow can move pretty good on it on flat ground but others.... not so much.

This!! I picked up a go-kart from @mbalbritton a few years back and put one of those 6.5s on it, it flies! My nieces still ride it when they are at the house and it impresses me how scary fast it is. Now my thoughts are stick one of those on a minibike that weighs nothing, add alcohol,a few buddies and see what happens!! All on the premise that it is a pit bike for running around the track at big races.

Well, my clutch is in Sylva currently. Maybe that means I'll have it by the end of the day. Worse case tomorrow. I'll give everyone an update on the build. I think the toughest part will be fabbing the adapter plate to the existing holes.

edit: this is what I plan to do.

Straightforward DoodleBug Predator Swap

I have a friend that him and a ton of friends built mini bikes and raced them. He has a lot of videos of them also - boostdoctor

This isn't their fastest pass, but I can't find the quick ones 7.9 @ 86mph

Looks slow off the line, but that sucker really gets moving mid track!

So nick got it going, then broke the chain and left for a week of vacation......

So I brought it home fixed the chain and almost killed myself

Those things have always looked like fun to ride. I've just never been "mini" enough to ride the damn things!!
