Missfiring HELP

Ok xj 1996 4.0.Check engine light came on, so wen to advance and got the code read and it said random missfiring 1,3,6 cyclinder.I have changed the plugs,wires ,dis cap and coil.I have read up oon this alittle,but was wanting get some more input on this as to where to go from here.What to check next or replace?Yea and put new cat convert onit and muffler.Any help will be greatly apreciated.
 
Forgot to mention that I did reset it or at least think so .Unhooked the neg battery wire and light went off for about 20 miles then came back on.But thanks
 
My buddys '96 does this too. I think his is a clogged fuel injector. You can unplug the first three injectors and it doesn't affect the way the engine runs. Unplug the rear ones and it runs worse. Something else to try.
 
Thanks for the help,just got back for the shop .He put a thesticscope on it and said that #6 cylinder has a burnt valve in it, do a haed jod or find one he says is the answer.

To which you should also have the injectors checks for proper operation.

A lean cyl will burn a valve, and do it quickly.

that you have 3 cyls nnot firing properly tells me you have injector issues as well. A lean miss is still a miss.
