Went up to Callalantee this past weekend, had a great time. Met up with CYJKrawler, and headed out. John was having some issues that were intermittent on his Jeep, just would not run all the time for some reason. But we made our way around several places including the welder waterfall and easy out. Wasn't easy for me at all, a definite wheel base trap. I kept hitting my spring mounts and stopping all forward motion. Almost made it a couple times and it fell back down, pulled out the cable, was too early in the day to break. There will be another time for sure. all in all had a good day, headed back to camp, john went to town for some gas, and we went back out for a while.
Sunday, we tried a few things on his Jeep hoping it would be a fix, but after about 15 or 20 mins of running, it started it all again. John decided not to fight it again another day, so we headed back.
As luck had it, NCTTORA was there. They were kind enough to allow me to tag along. Boy, now I know how they feel, when there is one or two Toys in a group of Jeeps. I think about 9 Toys and I was the only Jeep.
We rode up to the tower, from there there they were not sure where they wanted to go, so I told them there was a small rock garden just below the tower, where we came up, so, we went down there and played a while. I was first to go up, and it's tricky at first with all the loose rocks, but then it turns into a throttle climb. I made it up and then watched them play. The locked front and rear toys made it up after searching out the right line for them, with out too much problem. Now the real fun was watching the couple that were IFS and open in the front. One made it up, and one had to be tugged. I know one guy "cornbread" as they called him broke a birfield, and I heard another guy on the radio say he had something wrong with his front end. The funny part is the exit to this place, it's a very steep decent off the side of a tall hill. Listening to them on the radio was funny, with all the chatter about how steep it was. I told them to begin with to think Thunder-road at Carowinds!
anyway after that I headed back loaded up and come home, some of the broke rigs came back to camp too, while some of the NCTTORA guys head up to welder.
Fun weekend!
Big thanks to the NCTTORA guys for allowing me to tag along.
