My wife and I are planning a trip out to Moab May 25th to June 1st. We will be driving out going I70 out and coming home I40. Planning on renting a Jeep 2 or 3 days to do some mild wheeling, hiking, mountain biking and sight seeing. I have a few questions.

1) What are some must do mild trails? I'm thinking about spending a day in Arches National Park and a day in Canyonland.

2) What are some good tent camping spots? Considering one night at Devils Garden in Arches and maybe Dead Horse Point State Park.

3) Where's the best place to eat?

Any advise or tips are welcomed. Neither one of use have ever been out there and are pumped about making the trip out there. Thanks in advance.

You can do most any trail in rental Jeeps. They usually have a list at the rental place. I like Moab Rim, Fins n Things, Poison Spider and Hells Revenge.

For eating I like Moab Diner, Cassanos Italian and La Hacienda.

Theres a bunch of us on Jeep Forum that will be there the last week of May and the first week of June. I will be in this

Start with Fins and Things , then work your way up Charles Wells guide . Fins is a great trail to sample what Moab has to offer .

In town Canyonlands is the nicest and most convenient. I like staying up 128 or off of Potash road near the river on BLM land though the bugs can get bad depending on the weather . If you go out to Dead Horse and go down the access road to Long Canyon trail there are some awesome primitive sites with amazing views .

Milts has awesome blackened chicken sammiches ! And the Branding Iron has great dinners . If you want Mexican , Fiesta Mexicana is the most like what we get in NC . The Sunset is a nice place for dinner with a neat bit of history behind it .

I love Moab , it is somewhere I wish everyone had a chance to go see and experience .

Thanks JC. I'm looking at renting from Cliffhanger Jeep rentals because they rent JK Rubicons. I know they have Moab Rim on their prohibited trails. Fins and Things and Top of the World are two I'm definitely going to try to hit.

Try farabees jeep rental for JK Rubis' also. I have tons of the GPS files for all the trails out there. If I can help with pointing you in the right direction let me know. I can get around Moab better than I can URE. I'm taking the wife's JK Rubi out there in two weeks.

When will you be out there? I'm thinking we will be renting the Jeep the 28th to the 30th. We might start with Fins and Things and try to hit Top of the World. Not sure what other trails but definitely those two.

We will have to try some of those restaurants.

Watching your thread and seeing your pics is the reason I want to do those two trails.

I'll add the brewery to the to-do list.

I called Cliffhangers and Farabees today and got pricing.

Cliffhangers $195 a day 2 dr JK Rubicon
Farabees $150 a day 2 dr JK Sport no lockers

Would you guys recommend lockers? I'm thinking for my own piece of mind I would like to have lockers if I need them.

If you are going to run top of the world, fins and things and such trails you dont have to have them, you can pick youre lines and be just fine, I only used my rear a few times and dont think we ever used the front any where but area bfe once.

There is an insane amount of traction out there.

Traction is incredible when it is dry. With only seven inch's of precipitation per year you will be good.

We left Friday night and drove to Newport, TN to spend the night. Drove to St. Louis today and went to the top of the ARCH. So far so good.

Saw these giant ass tires.

Made it to Denver. Man 12 hrs of driving is a long day. Kansas was interesting to see and the windmills were cool. Was a strong wind for most of Kansas.

I rented from Cliffhangers. They were easy to work with. The first jeep they gave us had some frontend noise. We took it back and he gave me a different jeep. I asked if we need to do the walk around again and he said no. The next day the oil change light came on. Took it back up there the next day and they added 2 qts of oil and called it good. Didn't even check the level. The tires were almost bald and were probably 32's, I didn't even look at what size they actually were. I kind of question the condition of their jeeps but I never had any problems with it and it never missed a beat. We beat on it pretty hard and when we returned it they didn't even come out and look at it.

I got the 2 door modified Rubicon and was very impressed with it's capabilities. If you rent it for 3 days or longer you get 10% off. Just make sure they give it to you.

I saw about 8 different places that rented jeeps. Not all were Rubicons though.

The rented jeeps out there take some serious abuse, They probably have more trail miles than road miles and you know they get driven hard with no remorse. There were two for sale that were being retired while we were at EJS, I bet they were very tired, so to say.

On to the trip report. Will be adding more and pics the next couple days.

Got to Moab Monday. Took 128 into town and stopped by Fisher Tower on the way.

Checked into Slickrock campground and headed to Arches National Park. Went to Balance Rock, Double Arch, North and South Window, and Delicate Arch.

Went and picked up the Jeep Tuesday morning. The first one had some frontend noise so we took it back and got another one. Headed over to Fins n Things first. Ran into a guy from Tennessee (CL) and tagged along with him the rest of the trail.

That was CL's dog but she came and set right in front of us when we took the picture so she was part of the family.

More Fins n Things

The family in the side by side was from Moore, OK and had gone through the tornado. Said they almost cancelled their trip but decided to go to get away from the chaos.

After Fins n Things we went down to Porcupine Rim. Trail is 11.5 miles and had a nice view at the end. We started around 4:00pm and after 1.5 hrs we had only gone 2.6 miles so we decided to turn around and head back down. The trail ran on the edge of the mountain and there were several skinny sections close to the edge of the cliff. Wife didn't like those too much. Trail wasn't hard but was very different from Fins. More rocky hill climbs.
