As a Moderator for the for sale section I have noticed here as of late, we have many who have either forgot the rules, or have never read them. Or, simply think they do not apply to them!

The most common reason for moderation seems to be:

BS in reply to a post.
If it is not a question about what's for sale, or an offer, or something that will POSITIVELY aid in the sale, then please refrain from posting it.

Posting for sale or trade of Guns, ammo, or any other type of weapon or part of a weapon.
It is not allowed, period! If you want to discuss any of this, PM said poster. If you are the original poster, then expect NOT to find your post the next time you go to view it.

Ebay ads, or Craigs list ads, are not allowed at all in the for sale section.
Not even for intention of showing a picture.
IF I see it, it will be deleted

Price
Even if you are wanting to trade, post a price if you want to post it. Otherwise, it will be deleted. No OBO, this isn't a price. No what you have in it, that don't matter, post what you are willing to accept.

Here are the rules. Read them, and follow. Make our job less and allow us to enjoy the board as you do

Commerce Forum Rules/Information:
Clearly describe your item. If any helpful information about your item to assist in the sale and eliminate possible questions. Some helpful details to include are: year, make, model, mileage, condition, color, tread depth, size, etc..
For best results include a photo of you item.
NOTE: Why Can't I Upload Pictures ?
Once your item(s) have been SOLD please edit your post to indicate it's been SOLD, or contact a Moderator for a prompt deletion.
90 Days - All ads not active for 90 days will automatically be purged from the system. If you wish to keep your ad active simply update it, or post a reply to your thread indicating you still have the item(s).
NO Commercial Ads - No advertising for a car dealers, or businesses there is a vendor forum. Private Party Sales only.
NO Group Buys - Outside the scope of this section, but may be addressed if needed.
NO E-bay/Craigslist Ads - If you want to sell it here, simply post your ad and your asking price, like everyone else.
NO Feeler Posts - or checking interest posts. Either you want to sell an item our you don't. If your not sure DON'T post.
NO Cross Posting - Do NOT post links to items posted on OTHER sites.
NO Chit Chat - This is NOT the forum to comment how cool someone's chrome rims and Thornbirds are. Acceptable comments and questions should positively aid the sale of the item or answer a question.
NO BS/Slams - No Slams or any negative comments about an item. If you feel an item is over priced, simply don't buy it. If you must comment send the person a PM.
No posting of animals/pets for sale.
NO posting of weapons for sale - This includes ANY type of gun, knives, bow and arrows. Don't post it. It is a liability issue that the board will not accept.
NO Controlled or regulated items - Basically if you need to be licensed or are required to fill out paper work to buy OR sell it, Don't post it here. This includes explosives, regulated chemicals, etc. If your not really sure if you item meets this criteria. DON'T post it...
NON Supporting Members - Max of 3 posts per section, no excessive bumping. You will not be warned your shit will be deleted.
NAME - If your profile is complete you're all set, else you MUST include at a minimum your FIRST name. If your selling something for a friend they must be identified.
PRICE - All ads MUST include a price. This must be the price you realistically hope to get for the item. For example, you cannot put $1,000,000 as a price just to say that you did post a price. The point of this rule is to avoid buyers having to ask how much the seller wants. If you really want to sell your item, then you have a real price in mind that you will take for it, so post that price. Moderators will delete ads that have no price, or that have an obviously fabricated price just trying to avoid the rules.
LOCATION - All ads MUST include a location, (City, State)
CONTACT INFO - Specify additional contact information, if other than PM. i.e. e-mail, phone, etc.
NO Name, NO Location *OR* NO Price = POST DELETED.
SAMPLE TEMPLATES (CUT/PASTE if needed)

by the way i was gonna see if i could post a link to a gun that i have for sale on ebay but i dont have a price for it beacuse its a feeler for now.

I pretty clear of the rules in the swap section. But what about the other area's like when you get a question answered should you delete that thread or is it used for a database to limit repeat threads? I have used the thread tools to look for information but normally end posting my specific question. I'm new to forum life and want to follow the rules and I do read the sticky at the top before posting just to make sure I'm in the right spot. I need to increase my knowledge of abbreviation's because thats what loses me. Thanks for the information

On the m715zone.com, we have a miscellaneous sale board... it's titled "eBay, Craigslist, other links, etc." and it's purpose is described as:

If it's for sale and not your own stuff, like eBay links, please post it here instead of the for sale board. Also for member items placed on eBay (no fixed price disqualifies from "for sale" board).

It's worked out great, and is a good place for folks to drop craigslist finds they've run across, etc.

Might be something to think about here...

Man, that is an awful lot of chit to remember for us challenged folks. Beside, then you not have anything to do :flipoff2:

Sounds like a good idea!

On a side note: I never understood the reasoning behind the no ebay rule deal. For vehicles, it provides a link to 24 good pictures(eliminates multiple requests for pictures), and most people are willing to sell their item locally because it will save them from paying a sellers fee.

Either way, whatever the rules are people should respect them. However there is always room for improvement, just like on our rigs!

Traditionally it has been sad that craigslist/ebay/classified ad links were ok for the purpose of providing pictures so long as the rest of the rules for a post were followed.(This was even debated/decided in the mod forum by Mike at one point)

Additionally obo prices have never been a problem in the past. And i can not say that I would understand why obo would be a problem, if I need to sell a part or vehicle, obo indicates I have a price and some flexibility.

Do these two specific points represent a new interpretation of the existing rules?
I actually thought it was slightly preferred to have off site hosted pics as it reduced our overall bandwidth usage?

Again, not trying to be contrary. Just asking for clarification.

He wasnt saying a price obo is wrong, he was saying posting no price, just best offer is wrong. Thats how i read it anyway.

trade or OBO is different than $1000 OBO or trade.....

no price and wanting to trade, I have no idea what you value your item at, you really want the hassle of me offering you $5 and a ham sammich and you countering every offer ?

If you add a price, I know whether I want to offer a steak sammich instead ( there is now a value attached )

Ive seen something like this on a few boards, usually called a "great find" or "great deals" section. There people can post up anything they find that others might be interested in, be it ebay, craigslist, or if 4wp is running a good deal on chrome lift blocks.

Cool thats why I asked.
I definitely agree, asking for a YJ obo is stupid, I could just offer a box of broken metal and call it equal...I just dont want to see us eliminate the 8500obo from vehicle posts.

I worded it wrong.
price+obo fine
No price and BO or best offer, not fine

Rules apply to everyone, I was once modded for posting a pic of something I had for sale. It was a link to an EBAY ad, not mine, and it was fixed..............

I have even done my best to PM each person who I have deleted an ad. and told them why

I thought that's what a YJ was. :flipoff2:

Ya, I used to allow that as long as all the other rules were fine. But the current classified mods are free to interpret the rules as they like as long as they are consistent. Honestly I got tired of explaining it to crybabys who simply wanted to link their egay ad.

I do like the idea of a section for good/interesting finds and links. We'll have to discuss that.

or if 4wp is running a good deal on chrome lift blocks.
Duane

We can offer you chroming of your original lift blocks now. This is a new mall crawlin service we provide.

If you want new chrome lift blocks JC Whitney is your friend.

oh yeah, I almost forgot........:flipoff2:

my .02 worth is add a section just for those linked ads or "good finds"

Chip, I am planning to post up some laminate flooring for sale..soon. Last time I did this, I posted a link to the Armstrong site, where pics. and further details of the product were readily available. Will this work, or is posting the link against the policy?

Dylan, a link like that is not specifically noted to be against the rules. Now it could be interpreted be not allowed because you are selling flooring, and, you are in the flooring business. That said, it would not be my call. I would ask Yager, Hobie, or Rob.
