Moped gang holds up traffic

So I was working in the garage when I hear all this buzzing outside. Then a group of 20 mopeds rides by 2x2 with a ton of cars behind them. This was on a two lane highway. I live just outside of Newton, so not too far from town. I thought they had to ride on the right side of the road so people could pass? When they got to the light several turned around in the middle of the intersection like it was a parking lot. I guess one of them had a running issue as they all shortly passed again.

I don't care for them on the road, but prefer that to someone getting behind the wheel of a car that shouldn't. I know the people behind them were mad!

No pics or vid? You sir are a bigger failure than the liquor cycle gang.

But no, they are basically the same as bicycles, there are no laws that specifically says they must ride single file or on the right side of the road, only that they travel with traffic and stay in the right lane except when avoiding an obstruction or overtaking a vehicle

I know, right? It's not like I didn't have time to snap a shot!

i big honkin 5" exhaust pipe connected to a very fat coal burner woulda been nice in front of them ole boys!!

were they actual mopeds or scooters? The scooters (>50cc) are essentially the same as motorcycles and require a NCDL. While i think many get away with it, most of the scooters sold today are being used a mopeds but are too big.

Should have run them off the road one by one...

i get so pissed off at the bicycles, i live about 15 miles outside of raleigh, and 11 of those miles are designated as "bike routes". every weekend it's like trying to pass the damn tour de france. it's not so bad when your the first vehicle behind them, but you get an "ole blue hair" 2 or 3 cars in front of you and you liable to have to ride the whole way at their pace.

i heard from a guy at work there is a moped gang in newton or that area.

Did they all have helmets with little propellers on top? We have way too many of those things on the road here too. Roanoke City requires a moped/scooter to be tagged and insured but the county doesn't. I hope the county follows suit, that will cut down on the number of them on the road.

A guy pulled up on a scooter while I was pumping gas last summer. I heard him coming from 1/2 a mile away and as he pulled up the sound was deafening and highly annoying. I asked what happened to his muffler after he turned the POS off and he said he took the baffles out for more power......and he was drunk and or jacked up on sumpin, I wanted to punch him but he obviously had enough trouble w/o me bothering him from his looks. I've also seen a guy riding one on Davis dr. a divided highway in RTP w peeps run 70 on the wide open, 55mph rd. He wears black/no reflective gear and at night or early in the morning ( dark ) you can barely see his dim tailight and he rides maybe 40 in the center of the right lane w lot's of traffic zooming along, though there is a wide shoulder or bike lane that would be safer for him to travel.

None had tags, so I assume mopeds. They weren't breaking any speed barriers either, so probably 50cc or smaller.

I just can't believe they took something, somewhat shameful & slightly annoying to deal with, to a level of a social group that multiplies their annoyance.
