Anyone elses county spraying for mosquitoes?

The wife and I were watching TV maybe an hour ago and I heard a small plane come over pretty low. I had read that emergency management had authorized spraying and weather permitting get they would begin tonight and I assumed that's what it was. I stepped out to get something from my truck and didnt get bit in the 2 minutes I was outside. This afternoon everytime I walked out I got swarmed. The carport floor is littered with dead mosquitoes. I'm pretty impressed/weirded out. We must have had a direct hit.

They're spraying Naled at a rate of 1-2 tsp per acre. It's hard to believe that that small of an amount would be effective but it sure seems to have been.

As a libertarian leaning conservative, I'm a little wary about what gives the .gov the right/authority to spray a chemical compound over private homes and businesses. If we were dealing with a malaria or zika outbreak then yeah, gotta do what you gotta do, but these are "new" mosquitoes that aren't really transmitting diseases. They're a nuisance more than anything. I'm not against the use of pesticides, it's just that the .gov is spraying over the entire county. :tinfoilhat: what else could they be spraying under the ruse of mosquitoe control? :tinfoilhatoff:

Cumberland Co has sent trucks around spraying twice now. Once this week, once last week. They are supposed to spray by plane too. I'm all for it, they used to do it up until about 10 years ago regularly, then they cut funding. The damn things make it impossible to go outside, normal skeeters don't bother me, I never even know if I got bit, but these damn things are like a cross between a humming bird and woodpecker, and damn near as big. I had one stab me in the gut earlier through my damn shirt!

When I was a kid, 30 to 35 years ago and lived up in MA, those trucks would would run through town spraying for mosquitoes. They would sound an alarm and even back then I thought WTF? What the hell are they spraying?

my only complaint about the spraying is they scheduled 8pm to start, they flew over the house @ 7:15pm just as i was pulling food off the grill. it wasn’t a practice pass as 20min later they came back the other direction not much further away.

when stuff like that has a specific start time, they need to adhere to it

wings didn’t taste any different, do seem to have a strange twitch i hadn’t noticed before.....

the town i grew up in did same when i was a kid, and nobody stopped us from riding bikes behind it in the fog

it might could explain a few things later in life.......

Spartan Mosquito Eradicator - Order Today!

Those things work pretty damn good! The best part is knowing that it basically makes the mosquitoes explode after they eat some of the stuff in them :D

The local lawn and garden gave away thousands of them...two per person...and they work!

Who was it? @termitebuffet ? Has a wealth of info on this subject. He pointed me in the right direction a while back.
