Otherwise pull hard and smooth and as soon as the head clears drop it. When they hit the ground they go full possum and play dead! Goofiest mouth full of snaggle tooth critter I've ever messed with.
My grandpa said when times was real hard they would eat them. Only way he said they could stand it was to "power boil them and drain all the fat and gristle off and fry what was left darn near burnt"! šŸ˜ƒ

Back in the 80s teens a friends had a small old farm shack in the woods near his house where would smoke weed, drink and play cards for $. One night me and 2 friends going there to party. We were walking down the road when a large opossum walking down the road and I grabbed it's tail. One friend had flashlight so I see it and shake it and bite my hand. We got to woods and the shack. I opened the door and tossed opossum into shack and hold the the door shut ! The guys in shack were jumping around and causing for a min. and I kicked the opossum out the door, good times
