I always stuff [not fold] a tent into the bag.

folding tends to leads towards the same crease folds over and over, which will weaken the water proofing in those areas. I was always taught to stuff my tents as well

EDIT: Some really large tents i tri fold and then roll it

That, and it's just soooo much easier to deal with. You can pack up or setup in the rain really quickly.
