That's about all a Maglite is good for...not that I'm brand loyal or anything...You left out the big 4 cell maglights. They make a decent hammer in a pinch.
I need to post this up for all the ray-turds up here that say pee-can...
You have to say "pahkahn" with your nose up and pinky finger out.
Few things burn my ass nowadays. I typically shake my head and move on. Much like JF's thread but since I was in Boy Scouts and am an Eagle scout this shit gets me.I hate it, but this is where it's headin

I know several who have. I earned mine before it all fell apart, so Ill keep it. My troop closed to new members when the gays decision came out. I was the last one to earn Eagle. We still had a few who were working on it, but none finished to my knowledge and I believe the troop is disbanded now.Pisses me off too. Almost tempted to mail my eagle scout pin back to them.
Like many organizations, membership of youth and adults in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts has been on the decline in absolute and relative numbers. Boy Scouts of America ("BSA") has studied this decline and thought long and hard about what to do. It learned that parents of scouting age youth want to use limited time for family activities. Parents today have limited time, and an activity that both sons and daughters can participate in at the same time are more desirable than activities segregated by gender. Sisters have been doing Cub Pack activities with their Cub Scoutbrothers for years, and now they will be doing so as members.
Come on, grow up. Boys and girls go to school together, go to church and band camp together, etc. Scouts BSA will have sensible youth protection policies. Boys and girls won't be sharing tents.
Are there some bad Scout leaders? Sure. There are bad teachers, coaches, taxi drivers, and a heck of a lot of bad parents. But, ...... there are a lot more really good adult Scout volunteers, both in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
I love a lot of the Scouting traditions. I was a Boy Scout. I still have my Yucca pack, but I don't use it anymore. I use a modern internal frame backpack. Things have changed, and Scouting is changing to survive. I would love to know how many of the critical comments on this thread are by people who started out with wood and steel firearms who now have polymer and aluminum firearms.
While that might make sense from a time perspective, when you think about what BSA is designed for and built around youll see that integrating girls will not help anyone in the long run, but instead will be detramental to all involved. BSA is meant to help boys grow into men and learn to be leaders. Boys and girls need different things to mature. They learn differently, think differently and need different things. Not only that BSA is supposed to be a get away from everything else thats going on. I cant vouch for all, but I was happy to be away from my siblings for a few hours/days while scouting.Somebody posted this over at S&W forum....makes some sense:
Boirl ScoutsI might start a new thread on this....lots of things to think about.
I'll just say....as an Eagle, ex-Scoutmaster, Woodbadger, Silver Beaver, etc, etc....the only thing consistent in Scouting is that it changes, and people complain. I remember back in the 70's when I was in the troop, leaders were complaining about how it wasn't like it was in the 60's....and others complaining by the 60's it was really downhill from what they had in the 50's....and on and on.
Hasn't the BSA been about the only WOSM member that's NOT been fully co-ed?
