Yes, yes it did work …
But it took over 100 years to actually develop the vaccine from the first experiment to one that was considered safe enough to make it a viable, effective vaccine.
Not to mention it was an actual vaccine. It STOPPED Smallpox. It didn’t “ decrease the likelihood or severity of contracting it”.
My dad was in pest control his whole life and they had contracts to "fog" entire towns with DDT. They had what they called "Fog Machines" and even a version that he carried around homes. He did our home regularly and yes our dumb asses ran through it!
Man I wish I had pics of that machine, it was like out of a sci fi movie.
