This was posted on one of the MX boards I frequent. It is a cross between a Honda 50cc dirtbike, and a downhill MTB. It uses the engine from the mini dirt bike, and the suspension/wheels/tires from the MTB along with a bunch of other custom parts. Larger, bored and stroked versions of the famous Honda 50cc motor can be used. I'm not sure what to think about these, but I think I would rather ride my MTB or my dirtbike though instead of something that is a major compromise of both.. It seems like too much of a compromise to be really useful or practical. It has to be way too heavy to realistically pedal any distance at any real speed. The slightest hill would require use of the motor. There is only one gear ratio with the pedals. There is no way it would be legal (with use of the motor) on MTB trails, bike paths, and greenways etc. It is a really cool looking moped or liquorsickle though, lol. I guess it would be a drunk's holy grail of cool transportation since it wouldn't require a drivers license to operate in most states.

What do you guys think about these?

I think the one in this video has a bored and stroked 155cc motor.

Looks like a blast to me. Though a think the video does a great job of demonstrating the hooliganism that would occur with these. I want one. I wonder how well they will hold up?

Damnit, watched the video. Now I want one... I haven't checked the price tag yet though, that will probably change my mind.

It should keep up with traffic. This could be a good little commuter.... I like it.

I think that will depend entirely on the components you use to build one. I'm thinking the frame and swingarm will hold up pretty good. For the motor, you can buy a cheap Chinese Honda 50cc knockoff for a few hundred dollars, or a built high quality Japanese 100cc+ motor for a few thousand. I'm guessing you could buy cheap MTB parts or good high end stuff meant for big drops which seems necessary to handle the extra weight of the motor.

I'm just thinking I'd rather have a good full suspension MTB and a good dual sport motorcycle instead of a compromise of the two. The video does make it look like fun though. I'd like to know how heavy they are. It seems fairly light and maneuverable.

The website says a stock 50cc motor will propel it up to 35mph, and a built larger motor could propel it up to 65mph.

But I see the appeal of being able to quietly pedal on my dirtbike and be able to bunny hop it, while still being able to wheelie up stairs and go 30mph with no effort :wheel:

Been on my 'To Build' list for a couple years now. Finally got the fitty a few months ago...

Don't know if I know enough about mountain bikes to select parts that are strong enough though. Might need some consulting there.

I race pitbikes and have a daytona motor that's bilt to fit a honda 50 there 1000 bucks but its 22 hp and it flys in my sdg

$2600 as a kit with no engine, then figure 6-700 for a honda engine, i was thinkin they would be less but i guess a quality mountain bike is couple of grand so it probly is'nt a bad deal if you are into it. That being said i think the price point alone will eliminate most of the aforementioned "hooliganism". I like the idea of the thing though, looks like a blast to ride!!

scared to death!!!!!

thats no wheels hubs or body work for $1599 kickstarter is the only place to buy them currently

scared to death!!!!!
