I got this in an email, and don't know if it's true, but it sure looks cool:


Have you ever wondered what all those extra SUVs are in the
Presidential or VIP motorcades? You know, the ones with blackened
windows that noone gets in or out of.
Well, wonder no more. They have a 6-barreled 7.62 mm mini-gun. They
fire over 4,000 rounds per minute. The wipers need to be run to remove
spent casings when the weapon is firing.
This video is from the company that makes this happen. The vehicle
is also armor- plated.

that may be pushing the reality a bit because that wepon in the urban u.s. would cause loads of casualties where a possible tacical responce team would be more approperate with wepons like the S.A.W. and Ar's

but i might belive it with the troubled times in the us these days

We're talking about protection of the president. If it comes to a situation where you are having to break out heavy machine guns casualties are no longer an issue.

The U.S. Coast guard uses the dillon mini gun. Several U.S. Gov. installation uses it as defense. The place that makes plutonium for the U.S. uses them http://www.mindfully.org/Technology/2006/M134-Gatling-Livermore3feb06.htm

They have been in use in urban iraq, with regard to casualties.

4.4k round mag seems quite inadequate on a 4k rnd per min gun

You fire it in 3-5 sec bursts. Any more than that and the barrels get so hot the bullets are no longer accurate and begin to tumble.

If you cant get your motorcade to better ground with 4.4k rounds shooting 3-5 sec bursts, you need to fire your driver. These are defensive/get the H out of dodge weapons.

W/ the 3-5 second burst

4000 RPM = ~ 67 RPS
fired at 5 second bursts =~334
4500 Rnd Mag at 334 rnds per burst = ~13 bursts
5 second cool down would mean ~ two mins of fire time.

That doesnt seem like long enough for a small army attacking a nuclear site.


But then again I guess they are thinking of being attacked by a 20 man or less terriost cell
 
I doubt anyone having this gun fired at them are gonna give a:poop: about those numbers. They are gonna get the hell outa dodge or die quickly. Definatly a fear factor there.

I have done security for both Clinton and Gore when the came to Charlotte. I saw some neat stuff the secret service was carrying and had available to use in the event of a crisis. I wish I could tell you more, but if I did then I would have to kill ya..............
