Figured I'd ask about any updates since the other threads are 5+ years old.
I just got a great set of tires on the cheap and since I have a WJ with wacky 5x5 bolt patterns I have to change the rims the they came on. I'm also selling the existing tires that are on my rims, so unfortunately it's a bit more involved... I can remove tires and mount them fine, but don't have ability to balance. This is a daily driver so that's slightly important and usually not to much more to mount/balance than it is to just balance.
So. Shop recommendations anyone? Went to a shop for sh!ts and giggles and they said $20/tire which is steeper than Boston prices... We had a guy who charged the public $8.

20 a tire is the normal price here unless your buying from that place, I used to have good luck going up to the places on weekends about 5 minutes before close and talking to the guys in the shop (instead of going inside) guy would usually help me out and charge $10 a piece.

Thats about 5 years ago though, I have alot of friends who work at tire shops or have other access who will do it for beer or a few bucks, but its a long haul for ya. Meet a few people off the board, someone will hook you up.

I would much rather do it with a guy for a few beers than pay a random shop. I was hoping someone around here would have it although GBoro isn't that bad of a hike and I could always use a good excuse to go out there. If the Raleigh guys don't pipe in I'll send you a pm.

I think ECGS has a ballanceing machine now. Give Chase a shout and see what he charges. At least that way your supporting a local vendor.

Just called em and they said it was more of a convenience thing for them to have than something they'd want to do on a regular basis. So back to drawing board. Trying to find the 235 85's that I'm needing is proving to be harder down here than it was up north as well

BALANCE ?

Why not try your own balance. I used the advise of several guys with the BIG tires. Bought 40oz.s of soft BB beads, at Walmart for around $12. Guessing from what I had gleaned, used 8oz. per tire, on 33x12.50x15 MT. BB came in 10 oz. bags, but I weighed the 8 on companys postage meter. My balance is near perfect, & wear & tear, or rim slip won't ever matter. I'm Happy!:bounce2:
