Anyone on here have any experience mountain biking at Uwharrie? I live pretty close and I have been thinking about getting into mountain biking. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I have been all over URE 4wheeling trails but never on the hiking or bike trails. Thanks.

Tarheel Trailblazers site has trail reviews including Uwharrie.
I'm usually lazy and just go to Sherman Branch.

x2 on the trailblazer site. It has a lot of good local info on it.

For a new rider, the trails at URE will wear you out! They are great trails and will get you in shape. The Supertree is what I'd recommend you start riding on until you're comfortable with the bike and shifting.

Getting back in shape is one of my goals. Along with just being outside and seeing some nice scenery.

Does anybody have any recommendations on a decent bike? Im trying to stay in the $500 to $600 range. I've looked at the Giant Talon 4 and have read good things about them. I would definitely consider a good used bike if anybody has one for sale.

I'd recommend going to a shop that rents bikes or is having a demo day. So many types and styles out there now.
That being said I think a hardtail 29er is about ideal for anything you'd ride locally.

Yea I was amazed at how many different variations of tire sizes, frame sizes, brands, and all sorts of other parts there are to choose from.

I would buy a used bike from someone who has hardly ridden it. You will get a lot more bike for your money.

Nothing to add about Uwharrie, but a couple months ago I picked up a pristine condition 2014 Giant Trance Advanced 1 for less than 1/3 of new price. Deals are out there.

I'd like to go to Uwharrie for a few days and just ride my bike but I'd wanna do it in the fall.
I'm strong on the pedals but my breathing control sucks so the dust would be a problem.

Unless it is really dry and you are riding with a big group of super-fast riders, dust is a non-issue.

For the terrain we have here, I agree that a hard tail 29er would be the best bang for the buck. A used bike would be the way I would go, given your budget. You won't find a good value in a new one at that price point.

Yea that's a little out of my price range for something I'm just testing the waters with. I appreciate your help though.
