well after talking about it forever, the time has finally come and im putting together my first trip out to TN for some wheeling. Mountain City to be exact. though i cant find a web-site for it, the link on here took me to one, but it was only ATVs and said nothing bout jeeps and such. anyone got the correct link?
i need some other info too from people who have been.
how is compared to Uwharrie? ill be wheeling my buddys 94 XJ with 3" lift and 31'" good year wranglers. should have the rear locked by this time.
i plan on taking some vital spare parts. we are camping out from Friday Oct. 22nd to sunday the 24th

i just have no idea of the terrain and difficulty of this place and want to know what im getting into before i drive 3 hours and realize we bit off more than we can chew.
any info, pics, advice on what to bring, camping and riding rates, points of interest, ect. would help.
and if you may want to come thats fine, at this point i got 3 jeeps in my group.

That is it, and yes you can drive Jeeps on all the trails as well (or 90% or more)

Look thru the pictures here for Callalantee, videos, etc. There is everything there from mild to wild. There are maps on here somewhere as well.

alright thanks man!

There is def. stuff way above your head there, not like URE where you can drive every trail. I took my XJ, simialr to yours (31s, 3", rear locker), and had a blast. I put some nice marks in my Full Traction tcase skid and rockrails, also popped a tire.

yeah URE is kind of a stroll in the park if it aint raining. you can go bout everywhere in a stock 4x4 there. im up for a challenge though and want to get some new wheeling under my belt. any trails i should def stay off of?

i appreciate the offer man, but i cant make it. i have plans already and to be honest i have to save for this trip, im 21 and live on my own so money is tight, lol. i do the best i can though.

There is a good map of the trail system, pull cable is a no no but there is a bypass running above the creek. In fact almost every trail there, there is a bypass running parallel so you can watch the big boys (or walk over and dream about your own mega rig!)

Waterfall is a good example, I know lots of folks that tried it when small, some made it, others did not. Worst case you winch over, or back down and then take the bypass. There used to be a bad place coming down that trail but it has been fixed as of last fall.

That White/Red trail and the Yellow trails are the ones I am thinking of that have steep downhill sections with tight switchbacks. I am not a fan, but they are doable. They were part of the ECORS race course last year!

That purple ridgeline trail is awesome (easy ride), if nothing else take it and turn around and come back down the way you went up it from the Little Tellico area, etc.

You may want to make sure you have something with you for minor tree removal if something fell down over a trail!!

yea, take you a chain saw.Back in July,I went back up around to the left on some steep climbs and heavily explored the trail systems in that area.Go in on the trail that takes off from the big loading deck and climb up till you get to the ridge line. You either turn right and go back down a step incline and either pop back onto the main drag or as I found out, wind up coming onto Welder up past the waterfall.Turn left and cruise the ridgeline and keep left at the first intersection. From that point the trails are endless. If it rains, there is a clay covered loading deck that beckons for big balls and lots of gas pedal out that way.Up there, the idea is actually to take the trail less traveled and see where it takes you.Welder is fun but hey,I really don't care about doing it 2 days in a row.Oh and if you are going the last of October, you could wait a few more weeks and go up over thanksgiving with us.

thanks guys! this is exactly the info i need, as i have no clue what to expect. as for changing our date, this was the best weekend for everyone as far as work and stuff, but i do appreciate the offer. i am going to be riding instead of driving since im selling my rig (77 F150) to build a Samurai, ill do a build thread when i get started. i originally stated i be going in a 3" lifted XJ with 31's but my buddy says he plans to swap that out with a 4-1/2 rustys kit by then and have 32's. ill post the 3'' and 31's for sale so keep an eye out.
i know to dress and pack warm since it will be a lot cooler up there than here, should we take our own fire wood? i know in URE its hard to find any cause its all been used, so i always take my own.

this thread can be deleted now when who ever does it sees this. not going now, gonna head down to gulches instead.

Theres more to do at MTN City for a jeep like you describe then gulches. Gulches is mostly setup for an obstacle course with big tires and well built rigs. It's kind of a buggy play ground is how I'd describe it.

I didn't find more then a days worth of driving there with 4" lift and front/rear lockers.

Not ragging on gulches but I think mtn city has more interesting trails if you aren't trailering.

nah i was planning on towing, aint no way id drive that far and risk something happening. im not sure whats gonna happen now, im selling my rig, building a Sammy that wont be ready till next year, and not even friends with who i done the jeep for and was supposed to ride with. longggg story!
hell i may just drive my car up sometime and bum a ride and help with gas, maybe experience all kinds of rigs and trails, lol.
