Moving a Playset

So I need to move this playset about 5 miles down the road. I was thinking take the slides off, crib it up and back the trailer under it and lower it back down. I might be able to borrow a tractor with a front end loader on it to help pick it up. Any other ways or better way to get it on the trailer? My neighbor just put a fence up so it's going to be tight getting the trailer back there and in position.

If you crib it, get it up on a trailer (2+ foot up)....how tall will you be going down the road? How easily can upper structure (uprights/ridgeboard) be removed??

How tall if you add cross bracing and tilt it down on the trailer (90* turn)? How wide?

I'll get some dimensions tonight. I don't remember what they are.

They highest 4x4's can be taken off but it would involve removing a lot of other boards that are attached to them on the slide side. Other side would be a lot easier.

I think you will be better off taking off the slides and swingset portion and laying the playhouse down on it's side on the trailer. Height-wise you will be too tall on a trailer going under a power line or traffic light. Depending on the dimensions you may be sticking out off the trailer a bit, but as long as you don't go past 8 feet I think you should be fine.

Another option would be to see if the upper "clubhouse" level (where you enter the curly slide) is removable, then just remove that portion and you may be OK height wise. That thing looks to be a MONSTER. I pulled a single 14' tall tower home about 15 miles on a trailer by putting it on it's side. It is AMAZING how heavy pressure treated wood is.

The top part does not come off. Really the only things that come off easy are the slides and the ladder. The swingset isn't attached to the rest of it. I built the whole thing and it is definitely big and heavy.

Looks like 13'6" is the max legal height.

This. I moved one a few years ago just like that. Just need to have a couple 12 packs and a few friends to strong arm it.

I moved a play set once but it wasn't that tall. By the time we got it down on it's side, strapped down, etc.. and then the reverse at the new house I wonder if taking it all apart would have been a better use of time and resources - especially one that size. We had to deal with a fence in both yards, tight turns, etc..

Just saying that taking it all apart seems like a lot of work but in the end it may be easier.

Then in that case, I'd definitely disassemble it and move it that way. You are already familiar with it's construction, so deconstruction and reconstruction shouldn't be as difficult. Good excuse to run out and get a cordless impact driver.

Did this about three years ago. Remove slides, rock wall etc, and lay it down on its side on your trailer.

Yep. We got my trailer close to it for removal and actually passed it over my split rail fence to get it in the yard. Again, most people who will help with this task are motivated by beer throughout the duration of the task. It worked for me and it can work for you.

Did this with my dad and brother once. Took off the slides and swing set. Then we laid it down on the trailer. Backed the trailer where we wanted it and used a strap and a tractor to stand it back up. Slapped the slide and swing back on it. It's still standing today and that was probably 10 years ago.

Cut the posts and then reattach? Bound to be some kind of metal extension pocket you can buy for 4x4s. The shear and moments should be pretty low on it.

Moved one by myself with a hi-lift and some cribbing. Jacked one end up put cribbing a few feet in and backed trailer under it. Winched it on the rest of the way. Moved it about 3 miles. Was close on a few lines.

To the tallest part it's 13'6" so it's not going on the trailer standing upright with that piece on there. To the next tallest point it's 11'4".

It's 10' wide x 6'1" deep. Looks like I will probably be laying it on its side to haul it.

Really don't want to have to disassemble it.

I got that exact play set. Me and a buddy moved in from Fayetteville to Bennett. It will come down in sections. Take the slides off of it. Then start at one end.
We had it apart and loaded in about 1:30 hrs.

Found my pictures, LOL.

We got it moved this weekend. Laid it down on the trailer using the Jeep winch and slid it off the trailer. Didn't have to strong arm it any. Was heavier than I thought.
