Since some of us could not make the Dixie Run last weekend a few of the Carolina Trail Blazers will be riding Callalantee on Saturday. We will meet in the campgroung/parking lot around 9:30 am and hopefully be on the trails by 10:00.
Come join us for a fine fall day on the trails.
Any individuals leaving from the Mocksville or Hickory area? I'd like to tow up with someone rather than make a solo run, always seems to make the commute more interesting. Maybe even stop halfway for breakfast and a bulls-session over hot coffee.
looks like im not gonna be making it no trailer and no funds for rollback to drop jeep off if anyone is coming up I81 and has trailer room gimme a shout can pay on gas no problem would love to make it!
probably be several CTBs heading up 321, round 7-7:30. Most usually hit the Hardees in Mtn.City, for breakfast. Some leave tow truck at the shopping center.
i'll be comming thru hickory but will be eating in granite or lenoir.can't make it to mtn. city with out breakfast. mabey we could all meet some place.
sucks, wish I could make it.
Big Chris (marsfab) told me the other day that Nov1 is like a cutover day on ownership.
Can someone point me to the thread, please?
I can't seem to locate it.
I've been up there 3 times and am going to miss Welder and a few other trails, plus Skyline in the snow.
We had a great group and awesome weather. My last ever run at Callalantee and I finally made it up the waterfall after 2 different rigs and 5 or so years of trying. Didn't need the winch all day, but I did need the assistance of Rodney's chainsaw on Armorall Extension.
Wow.. great time! Weather, trails, and company were perfect! I sure hope that was not my last ride ride there. Guess time will tell... Last trail of the day was Armorall. A few feet in and Lockedup5 snapped off the rear output shaft of his Tcase. He removed the rear driveshaft and was able to back out. He had a spare, but decided to call it a day to repair at home instead of laying in the dirt since it was so late in the evening. The rest of us headed on up Armorall. Never having a chance to do the Extension, I point the YJ on up the trail with GSW following along...well let's just say, the farther you go the Better (or worse depending on your perspective ) it gets!!! Started to wonder if I had bitten off more than I could chew, but the YJ kept pulling it 's way over the large rocks that turned in boulders. Just before the exit, I got centered and had to use the winch to give it a tug to restore forward progress. GSW came walking up next and one of the many logs near the end decided to installed itself between his front bumper and the top of the axle tube. Unable to move forward due to the log or back out due to the bolders, Rodney finally got to use his chain saw with a large smile on his face. (He unloaded it the first two times only to put it back without pulling the rope and a frown on his face due to alternate decisions being made.) Once a couple of cuts were made to reduce the length of the log, GSW walked the rest of the way out. From there we decided to call it a day and head back to the parking lot. It was good to see the the Warriorwelder ranger back running after a failed fuel pump and a trip to Autozone. They were headed to Armorall for a last trail since he was delayed earlier in the day. Hope eveyone had an uneventfull trip home. Looking forward to the next ride> Steve
Thanks to the CTB for allowing us to tag along. A big thanks to ya'lls concern for me getting out all right I was determined not to hold up the group for my rigs short fall. I had a great trip with you guys, Landen put on his yellow cape as the wife put it and headed out to the store after my pump gave up. I guess the lifespan of an 87ish pump isn't forever. Landen grabbed a clear inline filter while at the store which we I installed trailside two. After online a few hours run time it is now full of BB size dark tan colored balls of S*&T. This was the pumps nail in the coffin. New built cell lines and all, a few tanks of reg. gas and a bottle of seafoam foam for good measure since the truck sat for a good while previous to the last few months. So what is this mess coming from the tank?
My attemp at the waterfall also reared an ugly problem. I really thought I had it made. Half way up the trans burped large amounts of ATF and sent the engine reving like I mashed on a clutch pedal (WTH) was all I figured at the time. I've also discovered more heat issues than with the B2 on Armorall trail. I made it to the pull out area but we had to shut it down for a cool off then she pulled strong again. I need to research the pumps like or dislike of extreme angles before anything else. My fustration with the auto is leading me into trying to find other options, but my economics don't jive with a complete drivetrain swap. I don't have the answers for my rig at this point. Any sudgestions?
As for Landen he saved my trip by making the parts run then later having some ATF on board his tow rig. I had a blast on Armorall with him. He continued on after my short coming in drivetrain reared its head. We motivated all the way out with just a few instances of the reverse gear. No winch and a spotter was all he needed to crawl all the way to the other end.
We were glad to have you, Warrior, & Landen. Glad you both got to enjoy Some riding, & you both made out out ok. Don't know much on tranys, but wondered if your running synthetic? It will hold up to higher heat, & not boil & break down at 220. Good up to 400+, I think.
We certainly had a good turnout for the "CTB" alternate ride I thought. It was good to have that many show up. Again it was nice to put some faces with screen names. Maybe we can talk a couple of the nonmembers that rode into a membership even the one that drove the toyota. Just kidding Landon your welcome anytime to ride w/ the CTB.
We did have a few things go wrong including my out put shaft but all in all it was a great day of wheeling. I was unloading the jeep this afternoon and noticed my front axle "pumpkin" has got a pretty nice crack in it running under the U-bolt and couldnt see how far it went because of the mud. but anyhow any crack is not good. So Harlan next month might be tough for me to make. I need to decide if I want to work on that d30 any more or do something else.
