If you are replace a stock muffler should you get one that is equal to the size of the factory one or does it not matter?

What if you step up a size in diameter of muffler inlet but decrease the overall size of the muffler?

Advantage vs disadvantages of the tube mufflers and the box shape mufflers?

I thought I would check with other and there experenices with this. I am not looking for loudness as much as overall performance and minimize the amount of space taken up by a big bulky muffler. Thanks

From a purely performance stand point, the size, shape, configuratione etc. doesnt matter beyond the point that if affects back pressure.

You need to try and figure out what the back pressure of the stock muffler is and what yo are going back with. Then if we are getting technical you need the exhaust output pressure of the engine and the min/max restrictions.

Bigger isnt always better. Too little back pressure and you lose the scavenger effect necessary to draw the gases out of the CC. Too much and you limit horspower.

All this is what the reputable muffler companies do, the not so reputable ones just sell a biger pipe.
