I have a 1986 Toyota pickup 4x4 5 speed with a 4 in lift and it is having sever rear end problems. When i change gears my rear end starts dancing up and down which makes my whole truck jumpy. I just Changed the shocks yesterday i have 4in pro comp es9000 gas charged shocks on there and that didnt help at all. I have already broke my driver leafspring centering pin too. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME before i sell it to a junk yard as scrap and it is a stock rear end i think. It has a 410 gear in it

Welcome to the club! What type of lift in the back? all springs? lift blocks? can you post pics of your axle and springs. Don't sell it for scrap, I'm sure someone here would pay much more for it!!

Is the thicker load carriying spring on the bottom of the springpack? without it the springs/axle will twist like a bucking horse and break stuff fast. Is the pinion angle set right? Check out NWOR.com they make some nice traction bars for toyotas. Also wash off the mud and check for a broken spring in the stack.

I know this sounds like a stupid question - but are your U-bolts really super tight? They should be...
Also check the bolts and bushings on the shackles. It sounds like something is loose and allowing the rear to shift under load.

Did this just start all at once, or slowly get worse? Did you do or change anything right before this behavior started?

What a minute I assume you replaced that center spring pin right?
Have to wonder how you broke that, once again that sounds like something is not tight, like the leaves are sliding around.

Imho, the only way you break a centering pin is if the u bolts aren't tight enough.

The centering bolt only carries load when the u bolts aren't installed.

that was the problem the u bolts where stripped so i put 2 in blocks under my leafs and added longer u bolts it helped alot but i tightened them like hell and have been riding on them for 2 or 3 days so i need to pull it in my shop and torque them dont just dont know the torque specs for a 9/16 ubolt does anyone know if so that would help alot so i dont strip these u bolts out

does any of this make sence or am i not reading it right?

My translation:
The u bolts were stripped. This is probably what was allowing the axle to wander around and the leaf center pin to shear.
His "solution" was to replace them (ok, good) and add 2" blocks (not so good).
Correct?
Problem w/ blocks is they contribute to axle wrap. Plus if one breaks, yer f$cked lol.

No idea on exact torque, but it should be super tight, like head bolts. They will in fact stretch and loosen after initially applied, especially cheaper u-bolts. So yes probably need re-checking.
When you tighten 'em be sure to go back and forth between the sides of the U and different Us to keep the tension straight.
