My 88 Bronco II Build

nice....i'll probably end up SASing if i ever find a D44 for a good price. for right now the TTB will stay.

i wont be too hard on this thing, just taking it camping, fishing, hunting, etc. i'm gonna build something else once we buy a house and i have room for something else

I also built a 85 ranger and did the same axle swap your doing now on it and had 456 gears lockrite in the front limited slip in the rear on 33s it was fun

damn man, you've had it all....lol

i was thinking about regearing, but i think i'm just gonna throw a 4.0 in there from an explorer, an M5OD and 1354M t-case and eventually i'll find a used lock right to put up front. i wanna build some sort of wrangler on tons after this i think. something i can crash into a tree and not care about it.

started on my winch bumper over the weekend, had friday off but i didnt get as much done as i'd liked

here it sits now

so much for sticking with the TTB....picked up this little guy this weekend. TJ D30 (i know it's a LP, but it's the same gear ratio as my 8.8)

got the TTB out too

Awesome, You'll definitely be happy with it. Cant wait to see more! You going to go leafs prings or try to utilize the TJ brackets with some type of link radius arm set up?

just bought some XJ 4.5" coils from another member on here, so i'm gonna build my own long arms with some 2x2x.250" steel. 3 link it with a track bar.

i was thinking about using leafs, but the front bumper i just built wont let me do that. plus, i'm set up for coils already. i'll just have to do a little fab work and build a better, jeep like coil retainer for the top.

i think i'm gonna like it too. the D35 TTB is stronger than the 30, but it's a TTB. the ride sucks, especially when you lift them. plus, keeping a lifted TTB aligned and getting the steering to work well takes a ton of work. i just didnt wanna mess with it.

Liking how the build is progressing. The dirty 30 up front should be plenty strong for your lightweight bronco II + D30 parts are easy and cheap to come across if anything does break. Winch bumper is looking good too. definitely go to 33s when you get it built. That's going to be a cool bronco when it's done. I always liked these. I already told you that though.

which borg warner case is in your B2. I hope you got the one with the fixed yoke on the front output. If not get to looking or be prepared to clearence the snot out of the yoke for any kind of suspension travel. AS for your dislike of the Twin I-beam I'd have to argue. The right lift works great with these. I ramped cool 875 with mine and flogged it at speed. I did sas it for a Dana 44 but at the time Dana 35 IFS swaps weren't common and it never accured to me to do so. Snapping multiple stock front anything pushed the swap ahead. IFS 35's were in all the new stuff at the time and used stuff had not come available yet.

yeah, i've got a manual 1350 with the front slip yoke right now. i'd like to find a manual 1354 to swap in, but i've had no luck around here. i've read it's possible to swap in the guts and front half of an electric 1354 (which also has a fixed front output) but i dont know about that. some 1350's had fixed front yokes, but those seem to be just as uncommon as a manual 1354 around here. i found one a few years ago, but the guy insisted i buy his entire non-running ranger if i wanted it.

and i agree with you, the TTB can be made to work damn well. i've seen a bunch of rigs that have everything dialed in perfectly. lots of flex and a decent ride. plus, in terms of strength, the D35 TTB axleshafts are the same diameter as D44 axleshafts. i could have made it work with the right lift like you were saying.

got my XJ coils friday....4.5" teraflex. they should do the trick. much better than the POS TTB lift springs.

here's the XJ coils next to the TTB 4" coils

i ordered johnny joints from 4wp, but they wont be here for 2 weeks. i'm gonna do some more gussets and try and lay out the track bar. plus, i can get the new cross member built, get the tube for my arms and order some other stuff.

i wanted a 180 but i needed something to plug into a regular wall outlet. wife and i live in an apartment right now and i couldnt go rewiring stuff lol

update on the build

got everything ordered from ballistic and ruff stuff. just need to do one more small order from 4WP and get my arm metal and i can start laying everything out.

here's the johnny joints i got from 4WP. i'm gonna exchange the daystar bushings for daystar flex joints.

lol I love the modded shopping cart for welder stand and the mw3 case to show lenght of joints.

Nice build you love it in the end.
I built a chop top b2 years ago and loved it.

yeah, i wasnt paying $50-$100 for a welding cart, that one was in a dumpster at the autozone i used to work at. works great lol. i had to use something to show the scale for those joints, they're massive.

shoot post photo of shopping cart cause i need to make one for mine. I normaly used shopping carts for motor stands and transmission rollers. but never thought about for a welding cart

these are about the only ones i got...dont think i have any of just the cart
