Bought this off Craigs List. Now I just need to find some Chickens!

Big thanks to Redneck grrrl for using up her evening to help me get this on my trailer.
Spent till dark, getting staples out to salvage everything to make the pen. Ran out of daylight, so back today to finish.
My girlfriend hates chickens.
 
So I guess we will soon have the answer of which came first.... the chicken or the egg...
 
nice setup, i built one similar for my little girl, chickens are fun, she hand raised 6 from TSC, then the following year, six more, then the following year.................the neighbors dogs. haha well she learned about death a little early, anyways we would get a tube of crickets and toss them in the lot and that was a riot they would run like crazy chasing each other trying to get somewhere where the others would'nt take it
 
reds give you a good brown egg. white leghorn will give ya a nice white egg.
we have a mix of reds, whites and game hens. the game hens set/raise dibs
better than the reds or whites. we just cull out the roosters when they get
big enough to identify. currently got 30 plus hens and two roosters.
getting 40 -50 eggs a week. all my chickens are free range.
 
when a game hen goes on a set we remove her eggs and replace em with
brown eggs---they don't give a hoot what kind of eggs they set on.
games are great moms too---seen em jump on my border collie many
times when he gets too close to their chicks. (ps border collies are great
pasture protectors)
 
I had to eat my Rhode Island Reds because they were so mean. I have mostly Gold Comets and a couple Buff Orpingtons. Either of these two breeds are good layers and have a good temperament. My 2 yr old will walk around the yard while the birds are loose and they show no signs of aggression.

I have had good luck with birds from Shooks in Claremont.

Doesn't it need to have chickens in order to be called a chicken farm?

All you've got at the moment is a small shed and some scrap fencing. :flipoff2:

No different than a farmer during the winter, he might have any corn in the field, but he still a farmer!:D:flipoff:

I vote Golden Comets too, And or wyandottes (sp?) Hybrid XRocks make great meat birds.
 
Dylan, I grew up around pigs, my dad always had some. I have done I guess everything there is to do in raising, slaughter, and preserving. If I could pour a pad to keep it as clean and cut down on the smell, I might too.

Here's my chicky farm, when I got done I sorta thought I should have went your route. On the very day I was headed to buy supplies to start a friend called and said the swap shop had one listed on the radio. I called exactly 1 minute to late and had to drive right past the road it was sold on. All in the same ten minutes. Just like my luck! Good looking score in yours.:beer:

we wont be pouring a pad..I plan to just park them a few hundred feet from the house.
 
I will have to check that out. my neighbor has some. found out when he stopped in to tell me my dog had been killing his chickens. we go thru so many eggs. I have been thinking about doing the same

Here's my coop. My FIL and I built it a couple winters back. I've since rebuilt the "yard" to incorporate 8' poles. The window works in the summer to give them air and a breeze and the nest box door folds down to make a table to set your basket on while you collect eggs.
