So last night I've got a load of laundry in the dryer, and all of a sudden I hear somewhat of a "pop". The dryer shuts off and i go to check on it. I turn it back on, but the laundry isn't tumbling, but the dryer motor and heating element are working. Before I tear into it, could the belt be the problem? It's never squealed before, so I don't know what to look for.
TIA:beer:

sure sounds like the dryer belt to me. Dryers aren't that bad to work on. You should be able to tilt it back and look underneath to see if the belt is laying on the ground. Mine is about 1-1.5" wide and goes all the way around the drum and around the motor pulley. should be pretty straight forward to replace.

There is a belt around the dryer tub, that may be bad, or there may be a drive wheel that runs on the tub. I have not taken a dryer apart in years, but if memory serves me correctly, they are terribly simple outfits.

cool...I've got a project. WOOOHAHAHA

some are belt drive, some are gear driven, i'd bet money its a belt that as poped or gotten loose and come off

gear reduction belt driven...
go for it, "This baby spins clothes at 1800 rpm, Yeah Baby"

Considering the heat that it puts off, I was thinking a twin-turbo setup would be more efficient. I could have my clothes dry in like 6 seconds...

:flipoff2:...all of yous
I found this, so I should be able to whoop it once I find a belt (Lowes doesn't carry a belt for Whirlpool dryers).

there is a place in Rock Hill that carries any and every appliance part you can think of, seems like they are on white street, if you cant find anything let me know I will look them up.

Assuming of course you check with Boyd's downtown first.

yeah, I'ma call Boyd's in the a.m. Thanks yall.
