My hub is frozen....help?

I don't really have much expierence with manual hubs, being a jeep guy and whatnot, but the hub on my 86 4runner is stuck in the free position and i can't get it to move or come apart. How do these things work and what should I do to fix it.

I'm having similar problems with the hubs on the K5, granted it has a dodge 60 on it with external hubs, but once I engage them they keep getting stuck there until I take them apart . . . .

hubs are easy

the spring on the inside of the hub is the issue.....the gear attaches to the spring...it has a groove in the gear that the spring fits in....the spring is what operates the lock and unlock, if it pops out, or is pushed past the groove..it will not work...the groove is the only groove in the inside of the hub.....you have to kinda slowly turn the spring while holding the gear so it will clip back in....also tip...donot use any heavy grease in side the hub, it creates suckchin in side the hub and the gear gets stuck to the axle and will not disengage..light wd40 then wipe it clean. it shouldnt have issues after that....

I know usually they are easy, I've done countless ones on many different axles, this one's tickin me off, and yea the spring is in there right, I've had mine apart 3 times now
