First of all I have had a wagoneer which was a 1965(ended up on 33s), a 1968 cj5 on 38s (fullwiths and lots of other mods), a 1992 cherokee( 37s with fullwiths and other mods) and a 99 grand cherokee (32in ats, big system ... big mistake)... but now I have switched over to the yota side, which I have been lurking over for a while with almost purchasing a couple 40s and a 60 in the past. In November I got my first 80 it's a 1991 with 291k on it presently and it had 289k when I first got it. So far I am AWED at its mannerism on and offroad and love the room and the way it looks. But enough with all that on to why I am posting to begin with and yes its allot jam packed in...
A couple Pics its too cold out and pretty dark so more to come and hopefully some of it wheeling...
First of all I got everything up under it last Saturday, but went down to Charleston,SC for the new years with my girlfriend(we took her scion tc MUCH better on gas). It already had the 35's on it with no lift and sagging 17 year old springs that the P.O. I guess thought was a good idea. The lift is the OME 4 in hd comp kit from man-a-free which I was told would ride pretty crappy but has done well thus far. The springs are pretty stiff and I haven't had a chance to test it out off road yet. I did the install along with a friend in his driveway with jackstands(pain in the butt) But I think it was worth it.
Also I have recently installed a double din pioneer with navigation with two 4in alpines in the dash and two 4in pioneers in the rear doors for bass. There are also pics from this as well. To install the pioneers I had to cut out some medal in the doors as I found the stock speakers were not 4in but closer to 3 and 1/2. With the pioneers in the rear I was able to keep the stock kick panels by using some 30 sec epoxy. For the gps I ran it around the inside windshield rubber and tucked it up behind my rear view mirror. The install is not yet final as can be seen from the ipod wire hanging out of where my ashtray should be.
Also newly installed is the slee interior spare bar (which is totally awesome, very sturdy and much cheaper than a swing out rear for my college budget) sorry about the dirty interior... the small compressor is run off a 400 watt ac inverter and works very well for much cheaper than an air tank or onboard (50 bucks at wally world and 60 for the inverter)
And waiting to be installed is this Rear View cam which I'm putting in for trails so I can watch out for trees... It will be above or below the license plate and have two fog lights on both sides of the tag wired into the reverse lights so they will turn on when I need them. Also they will have a toggle switch to turn them off when I don't need them.
OH and I'm looking for some bigger tires pref 36 13.5 irocs ... or some rims with more backspacing (maybe even some beadlocks maybe some re-centered hmvees) than the stock yota ones... I want it to sit out wider so I don't feel so top heavy... have a 2006 honda crf 230f with about ten hours that I will trade for wheels and tires.
But I do have a couple questions?
1) This is a dd and weekend wheeler what would be a good gearing to run? I live in the mountains (Boone) for school and in Charlotte during the summer.
2) Also I think that there are a few 80 guys who have this problem... what is the best thing to do with the rear handle to open the tailgate? Mine is broken...
3) What it the best way to go about removing the flares ( a tree already took part of one off for me )
