So you have @palmetto zuk and @UTfball68 to thank for this one.Im sure anybody who half way follows college football or,like me,lives in orange kool aidville, has heard about the recent drama over the new head coach for the Vols.

So last weeks choice didn't pan out due to some poor decisions in the past,Ok whatever but you would have thought that had hired satan himself,People on FB giving out the sports directors contact info, signing petitions, picketing, the works.

If you accept a coaching job at UT your are taking on metric shit ton of baggage. If your not bowl bound your second year of coaching they'll want your head. Why would anybody in their right mind want to come coach at UT,besides the money?? The fans are damn near cult members and act their life depends on them having a good coach and winning.

Maybe somebody can help me out here (@UTfball68 again???) when was the last time UT beat any good teams w any consistency?? By good I mean the Bama's,Floridas,Auburns, ect??? They might beat those teams once every five years or so but they can never just own teams evey year like Bama does, unless you count Vanderbilt.

I get the whole team pride bs,really I do,but people around here act like the sun isn't gonna come up tomorrow unless the vols are winning. You can not go to any kind of function that has a DJ or some kind of music being played what they don't play Rocky Top multiple times.

Damn folks its just a game!!! Told ya Id beat this horse later.:D

Live in a normal state with real shit happening and you'll never have to listen to people argue about college football. Seriously. WTF does TN even do? (just my observation)

1. SEC coaching positions are a stick of dynamite with a fuse lit at both ends.

2. Bama/Saban is a "gold standard" that any SEC coach has to live up to regardless of the situation they come into.

3. Boosters and admin have horribly unrealistic expectations for the most part. UT isn't in the Fulmer era anymore, UF Isn't in the Spurrier heyday/Urban Meyer era anymore, UGA frankly shit on Richt. USC should have retained Shawn Elliott and let him build HIS team. Every decade has a different SEC powerhouse. Not giving these coaches 3-4 years to get their first senior class though and develop a recruiting baseline other than "come to 'insert university here' because it's X university" created this cyclical shitstorm.

Like I said in the other thread...I was there at the end of Fulmer’s run...ranked as high as #3 my first year. Pretty sure we won the SEC East twice in my time there. Competitive, got us New Year’s Day bowl games...still not what I’d call dominant...and that was a decade ago. They’ve been terrible since. And that’s the problem, they think it’s still a top tier job. In the last decade they’ve had Great recruiting, terrible coaching, never seen coaches do less with more.

The problem is with the SEC as a whole. They’re using Alabama as the standard rather than the exception. So I think we’re in the beginning stages of the decline of the SEC. 9 of 14 schools have gotten new coaches in the last 2 years. The SEC has only pulled 3 coaches out of 35 that have been on the move from the Power 5 conferences. David Cutcliffe, current head coach at Duke, was my offensive coordinator and Peyton/Ei Manning’s offensive coordinator...so he has UT ties, turned the job down. And why wouldn’t he, he can be a king with a 7 win season at Duke, or be on the hot seat if he averages 9-10 wins/yr, but isn’t playing for a title by year 3. Plenty of those examples the last 5 years (Mark Richt, Les Miles, Kevin Sumlin, etc etc), and they typically go elsewhere with great success.

As for the Schiano mess...I had no idea he was even associated with the Sandusky case. I was more concerned with the fact that we dropped all the way down to someone of Schiano’s caliber. I woulda put 50 names in front of his, and since he didn’t work out, that means whoever it is, will be worse.

Not sure if that answers or solves anything, but I’ve been venting that opinion to anyone that will listen.

Ooooo a college football thread. This is my shit. Will comment tomorrow

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the Duke folks as bad about mens basketball as TN fans are about FB??

Yeah...but they’ve had the same coach for like 30 years, so most haven’t gotten totally ridiculous through the coaching search process. I assume it’ll go like it did at Kentucky when Tubby Smith exited, flounder around with coaches like Billy Gillespie until they hit rock bottom and have to hire a coach that damn near brought two programs to the death penalty and flamed out in the NBA. Difference is, Calipari has worked out since he embodies the 1 and done philosophy.

My daughter went to college in Knoxville ..... NOT UT though.
On game day it was like going through an orange clad nightmare.
The whole friggin' state looks like Clemson's (gag) death valley...... orange as far as the eye can see.
Every waitress in every restaurant ..... in her perkiest, pony-tailed college girl voice ..... "ya'll going to the game?".
Truthfully the worst fans ...... even worse than Coach K disciples.

ugh!

So what kind of "real shit" is going on in Virginia? Sitting around waiting for DC to annex the east side and the west side to Secede to Kentucky? :p

Of course! It’s so exciting!

On a side note I was being a little sarcastic for that first post. I guess being in VA you are shielded from SEC fooseball.

ya know, that guy made crappy choices back then and will burn in professional hell for it now. after all, we are talking about a life critical position of a coach. must be of upstanding moral fiber and character. just wonder how many of the picket sign toters voted for hillary. ya know, upstanding moral fiber and character and all.

ugh!

They must all graduate and get jobs in Philly and become Eagles fans... I think they are worse.

Looks like Fulmer is in as the new AD.

Yeah...and sounds like he was the killing all targets and leaking info. Could be a genius power move if he has someone up his sleeve in waiting...otherwise, it’s a sleezy move and sets the program back for 20 years.
