Hey Jeremy, im ready to go muddin now.....NOT. i would hate to pull a cowboy and be stuck in the woods all night LOL...good times

Hey,

you might want to invest in some HD tie rods, lol. i hear that can be an achilles heal for you big chebby guys. :D that night with cowboy's truck was fun tho. i've never felt quite so.. ummm, close? to you guys before, lol.

the CJ is coming along. rebuilt the tranny about a month ago. a few lingering issues but hopefully i'll be able to get those out. i've got a set of Flowmaster 40 series mufflers waiting to go on there. all things are time and money tho.

i got some HD tie rod sleeves waiting to go on. just got to do it...you think you were close? there was 700lbs of boys on the back seat of a CJ LOL

what was wrong with that trans when you cracked it open? or did you already know what it was?

Hey,

haha, i have a lot more confidence in my body mounts now. that's gotta be a record for most humans in a CJ5. that had to be an easy 1200+ lbs.

i was having 2 main problems with the tranny. a grinding noise when the tranny was loading and unloading, and it was popping out of 3rd & 4th gears.

nothing was blatantly wrong when i opened it up. the 3-4 synchronizer assembly had some wear in it though, so i replaced that, cleaned everything up really well, and put a new small parts kit in it. the main bearings had been replaced the last time it was rebuilt, approx 3000 miles ago, so they were still in good shape.

put it all back together, doesn't pop out of gear any more, but the grinding noise remains. i think the problem may actually be my rear driveshaft angle. i think it is causing a vibration in the gears in the tcase, and that's the noise i'm hearing. so my next step is to go with a CV style rear DS and see if that smoothes things out.

bigmac
