Gonna start a thread on this xj I picked up for my wife last week. 2000 xj, 4.0, auto, 205,000 on the clock yadda yadda. Here is the plans for this build as of now… (subject to change lol) 05+ sd60 up front, 14 bolt rear and a flipped Dana 300. Gonna keep it coils up front and leafs in the rear. Frame stiffeners front to back. Gonna try to put 40s under it and not absolutely hack the body, I wanna keep the tub as clean and stock as possible. Also gonna keep the interior as stock as possible, other than some por15 and sound deadning wich I’ve been working on getting done this past week. But anyway here she is, hopefully it won’t take too awful long to get put together

Long arm? Stock rear suspension? Just curious plans there. Are you set on the D300? Anyone not see a flipped one leak? In for what sounds like a cool rig.

Gonna run a 3 link up front using all Barnes4wd stuff, will most likely do a hi-steer setup with hydro assist using the stock box. And I’m not exactly sure on the rear setup. Was kinda thinking a 4inch leaf pack and unbolt eliminators. As for the tcase, I’m not dead set on a 300. I’ve heard the stories about them leaking after you flip them, but it seems like a reasonably priced option to get 4:1 and a twin stick

I did this for a year then said no thanks. A CV front driveshaft will bind if you do a d300. Unnecessarily get rid of drivetrain length and pay too much money for the head aches. I would recommend a 4:1 rubi case or a 205 or atlas with an underdrive in front. Good luck!

My wonton XJ was a 231 case ford KP 60/ sterling with coils and shocks with 4” leafs. It flexed great once I added the rear shackle boxes. Once I researched the leak nightmare of the 300 I stuck with the 231 but did the dodge wide chain swap and it never had issues. Minor cut and fold at the rear and some bumps she never touched the fenders. All my front 3-link was the Barnes DIY kit and a custom cross member.

I've had 2 flipped ones and neither of them leaked. Well, the second one leaked a shit ton until I realized I hadn't plugged the old vent hole that was now on the bottom of the tailhousing...

did you turn your rear springs backwards? antiwrap bar?

I've got about 5 rear driveshafts that would disagree with you.....
And I wouldn’t say you’re wrong by any means but where I was at and wheeling at the time (Louisiana/ east Texas) and my not really beating on it “much” it held up. Long term I would Absolutley added a AW bar. And probably looked into linking the rear to eliminate all the drama. Oh and just for you @ghost I would have looked into a gawdzirra swap :flipoff2:

Gotcha. Just because.

Could do smaller axles and smaller tire and have the same pumpkin clearance.....but I guess your buddies would think less of you.
I just wanna do tons and 40s on this one, I kept the 44’s in my tj and I’ve enjoyed them but I wanna go bigger

Are you dead set on the dana300? I’d say a 231 with HD sye is as strong or stronger and the cases/parts are a cheap/easy to find

That is unless you spent atlas money juicing up the Dana300

Thanks.

What this guy said. I’ve got a D300 on the bench with atlas money in it that has a big enough crack in it, Hunter Biden would use it for a build. That jeep now has an atlas.

Got the interior put back together this morning, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I ended up pulling all the carpet out, and hitting it with some cleaner and my extractor to get almost all the stains out. I also put down a coat of rust prevention paint on the floorboards just to play it safe. Lastly I put down some 80mil sound deadening on the entire tub
