Why, nothing is there, no where to eat or hang out like people normally do in SC. Also hardly no where to stay.

Make sure you have your helmet on and your pipes are not too loud. They are going insane with that stuff right now. They just passed the helmet law in city limits.

To get rid of one bike rally they had to get rid of both. The Harley Rally is falling victim to the city wanting to get rid of the other rally. From what I've heard, the mayor wanted to "other" bike gone no matter what, and to get rid of it he had to cancel the other

The bad thing is they won't be able to stop the 'other' one.

Only law abiding citizens follow the law if that makes any sense.

You also have to were goggles with your helmet and you cant ride more then 7 bikes to a group anymore either they are not banning motorcycles just making it to were no one wants to ride there because of the new laws

read the Reader Reactions, they're pretty interesting
Yeah, I know I am not 100% with my spelling, grammar and punctuation but I feel that if I was to post up a reaction on a site like that, I would make sure I portray myself as half-way intelligent.

Mannnnn....this is gunna suck big hairy monkey balls. I can tell you right now that there's not going to be any possible way for there to be any traffic in or around Hwy 70 past the fairgrounds all weekend, the law is going to be everywhere, and I really don't care for motorcycles. There's probably a reason Mrytle Beach got rid of the event, why the hell does New Bern want it? Besides, the fairgrounds are really small, not a place I would hold such an event.

Yeah I can't imagine something like that being at the fairgrounds.. I bet Union Park is going to be a shithole come that sunday night

What are the routes to access New Bern, isn't it something like 2 hours from any interstate or other 4 lane limited access highway?
The drive gets you where - 30 miles and 60 stop lights from the beach?
Entertainment options:
1)Park the Harley and go 'yachting' on the Neuse?
2)Cruise the scenic backroads of Pamlico County? The mosquitoes will have an impact on that.
3) Bars - what bars...
4) Shopping - Twin Rivers Mall in New Bern is almost 30 years old and about 1/3 of the stores are empty.
Lodging - I think New Bern has all of 4 significant hotels.

They should really consider doing this in Greenville or maybe even Kinston. There's just not enough room to do this in New Bern. If they do, I can bet the number of people in the area will more than double that weekend!

The closes interstate access to New Bern is in Smithfield, that's about 1.5 to 2 hours away.

If you go to the beach, you have to go through Havelock and Morehead, that's about 30 stoplights and 40-45 mph speed limits through the towns and even slower on the other side of Morehead (25-35).

Not sure why they would invade Pamlico County...there's nothing there really (no offense).

There's a few bars in New Bern and Havelock, but nothing like MB. No famous, widely known bars or anything.

Shopping and entertainment....well...Havelock has a new Walmart :shaking:

Well if the bike rally takes off, you can bet the entertainment will pop up soon enough.

No bar is going to survive the other 51 weeks until next years event on this one week.

This event is not going to be an economic engine for the area.

New Bern is 30 miles from Kinston - the state and the folks in Eastern NC put over 100 million into Kinstons Global Trans Park. All that money went for squat. How many folks spending money at a bike rally does it take to exceed that amount of money?

New Bern will stay a podunk backwater until there is an interstate highway.

How in the hell does Kinston even fit into this equation? Have you ever been to Kinston? 3 stores left in the mall a grand total of maybe 5 resturants that don't have drive thrus, 4 hotels, and ONE bar that nobody would realize bikers were at because it brings the suck bad enough to only get 5-6 customers on any given saturday night.... Why not just do it in Pollocksville.....

We do have a damn capable off road shop though.....

I second Pollocksville! :shaking:

I just mentioned Kinston because I'm pretty sure yall have a bigger fairgrounds to do it with. They have stuff like Freak Show there, so I figured a weekend of bikers would fit there too. Really, anywhere but Craven County is good with me :wheel:

Yeah, we have 'tard show every year. And had x-fest. But, out fairgrounds aren't really all that big. and the supporting facilites are, well, non-existant. While niether location is ideal, I seriously doubt the crowd will be all that large given the MB tradition. Nobody goes because of the dealers association, or who tells them they can. They go for the crowd, the location, and the tradition. And really, Freak show is a tiny event compared to bike week. Yeah, people come in from a good ways off. But 90% of the crowd is relatively local people. I know almost as many people from Lenoir County going to bike week as Freak Show normally attracts.

F*@k Myrtle Beach, I've never left that city with a good feeling about going back.

This year, don't waste time and money on a yuppie rally, spend the 15-17th of may at The Rock at a real bikers party: http://www.smokeoutrally.com/
